Hope the next hurricane hits Congress.
This river of suffering in Louisiana and Mississippi has wiped out any smidgeon of leeway I may have mustered toward our nation`s leaders. The next hurricane should be man-made and aimed straight at Congress. We should save those who had the courage to speak the truth during these last dark days, but the rest of them, Republicans and Democrats alike, should be directed toward a road out of town.

We must create a storm surge that has no twin in history, a force clearly illustrating the end of our rope and the end of their road. We should render their rhetoric useless and their promises insufficient. We should use our wallets to fight their bloated corporations, our computers to fight their media lapdogs and our votes to fight their lies. Enough is enough. Any member of Congress who is willing to exhibit raw effrontery in their support for this administration`s failures needs to be stripped of every last scrid of power. Let them float away, smelling the drenched leather of their perk-filled briefcases while we take possession of their microphones.

We`ve given them all too much wiggle room. We`ve made excuses. We`ve looked the other way. We`ve even accepted some phony Democrats instead of demanding real ones, calling it a "big tent" instead of what it is....a Republican-Lite palace....complete with Brie and deals. We`ve even accepted a slew of spineless rhetoric and called it reasonable compromise. It has to stop.

This Congress has the gall to wear three piece suits in a cesspool.
Like they`re insulated from the hell, the trauma floating all around them. They can vacation for a month while pieces of arms and legs are propelled toward Iraq`s roadsides and while their own citizens are drowning in their attics or begging for a splash of water for their dying children. Sickening status quo.

Critics Say Bush Undercut New Orleans Flood Control
By Jim VandeHei and Peter Baker
Washington Post Staff Writers
Friday, September 2, 2005; Page A16

President Bush repeatedly requested less money for programs to guard against catastrophic storms in New Orleans than many federal and state officials requested, decisions that are triggering a partisan debate over administration priorities at a time when the budget is strained by the Iraq war.

Even with full funding in recent years, none of the flood-control projects would have been completed in time to prevent the swamping of the city, as Democrats yesterday acknowledged. But they said Bush's decision to hold down spending on fortifying levees around New Orleans reflected a broader shuffling of resources -- to pay for tax cuts and the Iraq invasion -- that has left the United States more vulnerable.

The complaints showed how the Hurricane Katrina disaster is prompting the same recriminations that surround nearly all subjects in the capital's current angry mood. The reaction was in contrast to the response to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, when for a season partisan politics was largely suspended and Bush had the backing of the opposition party.

A main point of controversy hinges on what until now were obscure decisions in the annual budget process, marked by routine tensions between agencies and local congressional delegations on one side and White House budget officials on the other.

2. This Country is divided. Not red / blue, but Aristocrats and the rest of
us. Congress represents the Aristocrats (with a few exceptions). They can't relate to the common people. If this was a company going under, they would be up nights trying to help. We need to elect congressional represent ives that are not members of the American Aristocrats.

3. Boy do you have this one right!!
I've been saying the same thing. I want to see the details of this Homeland Insecurity/FEMA budget to find out just how badly we've been ripped off again. These DEMS that keep voting for CAFTA, NAFTA, the amazing pork laden highway bill, my Senator, Wyden voted for the Prescription Drug Benefit. I'm so fed up. They are more concerned with lining their own pockets and getting re-elected. They do NOT REPRESENT THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY.

Other DUers keep telling me I'm full of it and they're not the enemy. BS, follow the money.

Nominated and thank you!

4. Hope you don't mind but I sent a copy to Democratic Leadership Committee
Can I share with others? My Senators? Obama? people who might read it and get it and do something with it? It's just a really good statement about what's been going on and I'd like others to read it as well.
