Democratic Voter Purge?
I received a letter from the Orange County, California registrar of voters requesting additional information to "update" my registration file.

I'm concerned that this may be an attempt to purge Democrats from voter registration lists. My wife, who is a registered Republican, did not receive such a request. I've never received one before. Interestingly enough, I was registered as a Republican until 1 year ago. And I have been registered to vote for over 20 years. Has my elgibility to vote become questionable now that I'm a Democrat?

Could Orange County be trying to remove Democrats from their voter registration list? Has anyone else received such a request? I'd like to find out if this is an isolated case, or a general pattern.

1. The Only Way To Deal With These Thugs Is To Register.....
Republican and stay underground and suprise them in 2006 and 2008. What if we all registered Republican and gave them a false sense of security? We'll all be 'political double agents'.

2. Don't know. But voter suppression is the main passtime of the electoral
arm of the GOP. We know this. So we have to be smart & prepared.

So find out more from your Democratic office. Perhaps they are just trying to make out a list of people who they will have to make a "livingroom" visit with to make sure you are registered with them.

I could see it either way.

Call your local office now. Get it all cleared up.

7. Calling the local Dem office is a good idea. If it's on the up and up,
they will know and if it is some chicanery, the NEED to know.

4. Voter Suppression, or Honest Information Request?
I'm just wondering if my situation is unique, or if this is a widespread problem.

The November election here in California was notable for polling places that appeared to have only electronic voting machines, though paper ballots were available on request. What was even stranger was that poll workers were forbidden to tell voters they could use paper ballots, unless voters asked.

5. Register, and get a receipt for your registration. Carry it with you.
Make sure it shows your address and details, and has the official office stamp/signature on it so that it can't be challenged on voting day.

6. You should also contact the DNC and the State Democratic Party,
and let them know this is happening. They need to figure out a way to get a team together to help re-register all the Democrats who are in danger of the purge.

8. Thanks
I'll contact the California State Democratic Party. Again, however, I'd like to find out if this is happening to others. If it is just an isolated case, it's no problem. But if it's happening to thousands of voters in Orange County, it's a big problem.
