Is there a place in the Bible that says to only have sex with your wife
for the purpose of having children?

Any references at all to the sex part of marriage? I'm having a discussion with my fundy brother, and this would help out.

1. There's that whole commandment about adultery.
A strict interpretation would mean "no sex outside of wedlock."

3. Hey, the "church" didn't even make marriage a Sacrament
until sometime in the 17th century I think. So who do you suppose they had sex with before it became "sacred"?

5. One passage
states that a newly-married man should be exempt from militarys service for one year to stay home "and cheer up his wife." (Not "knock up his wife," note.)

6. Also, don't forget the difference between the Old and the New Testaments.
The life of Jesus changed things. That's what the "Good News" (i.e. the Gospel) is about. The whole point of the life of Christ is that there is ONE commandment: Love.

People like to depend on the Old Testament too much. I like to ask them if Christ made any difference at all.

Hare Krsna! Hare Rama!

11. You are TOTALLY wrong on the difference between the old and new
testiments. Judaism has always considered sex a part of a married relationship - even to saying a man is obligated to satisfy his wife. Asceticism (other than on days like Yom Kippur) is not and never was a part of Judaism, other than for a few cults.

It was St Paul who probably introduced it to Christianity. It was Paul who introduced the concept that celebacy was preferable to marriage. It was Catholcism that argued that Mary remained a virgin all her life.

14. Many fundamentalist Protestants now oppose birth control.

They're having larger families than Catholics are these days.

8. In the Bible the purpose of sex was to have children, which is
why you weren't supposed to "waste" your seed by spilling it on the ground. However, since most Jewish kings had many wives AND concubines and at least one biblical character had children by his daughters, I don't guess it matters whether you're married to them or not.

15. Some people argue tha Onan was punished by God

not for "spilling his seed" but for disobeying God's command to marry his brother's widow and give her children.

16. The Bible does NOT say you sin for spilling
your seed on the ground. Onan WAS guilty of sin because he did not follow God'S command to take his brother's wife and give her children (for the purpose of continuing the deceased brother's line I believe.)

I don't know where in the Bible the Roman Catholic Church gets this whole birth control business. The cynical side me of suspects that, like Enron, the RC execs want to pump up their numbers.

9. here's a couple........
Many have taught over the years that birth control is inappropriate or sinful in the marriage relationship. It is argued that marriage is for the purpose of procreation and that any attempts to circumvent this purpose violates God's command to “go forth and multiply.” (Gen. 1:28). Now read this:

1 Corinthians 7:2-3:
“…because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband.” (NKJ)

1 Timothy 4:1–3:
“Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.” (NKJ)

If that doesn't work - have him read Song of Solomon. Here're the opening verses: (Pretty "hot" stuff!)

2Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.

3Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

4Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

5I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.

6Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother's children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.

7Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?

8If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents.

9I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh's chariots.

10Thy cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, thy neck with chains of gold.

11We will make thee borders of gold with studs of silver.

12While the king sitteth at his table, my spikenard sendeth forth the smell thereof.

13A bundle of myrrh is my well-beloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts.

14My beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of Engedi.

15Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes.

16Behold, thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant: also our bed is green.

10. Wonder if the racist Freeps ever read that part
Never mind that it borders on "porn" (by Freep standards) but just the concept of Solomon getting it on with this hot black chick might be enough to make them soil their sheets.

And yes, that means the white ones they're wearing.

How modern, or not.

And her breasts like another bad analogy.
