14. Rehnquist was already a right-winger. The court won't get worse because
he's gone. The sad thing is that it won't get better, either.

to replace Rehnquist.

3. An answer to Pat Robertson's prayer...
as it appears. Or maybe not. Now it is up to men of honor and vision to fill this empty seat.

4. Now we have to fight
two nominations. Hopefully the country has lost confidence in him and it could make it a little easier to defeat any bad nominee.

17. with a divided electorate, let each party pick a justice ...
there are many ways to compromise ... with two open seats, Dems could filibuster all of bush's nominees ...

or they could reach an agreement where they agree to approve Roberts and the Dems get to recommend the replacement for Rehnquist ...

there's nothing unconstitutional about it ... Dems should push the "this is only fair" argument ...

19. that will backfire if we made that argument
Saying "this is only fair" argument is not a good idea. This is about politics and Repubs are in the majority. If (more like WHEN) Bush picks an unfit nominee, like Roberts, it is our job to show why that person is not fit for the Court. We need to win over popular support and that, in turn, will weaken the administration's and Republican's hand. We can win this fight because we have the facts on our side. They only have smear and spin at their disposal.
