38. In some instances
like Paul Scaeffer and Jerri Ryan, they probably decided they were republican because they gave a few hundred bucks to ONE republican (that too I think it was a primary).

Hell, Robert Redford gave a few hundred bucks in '94 to some congressman from Utah. Maybe he helped him on an environmental issue way back. That doesn't make him a republican and for that matter, he never was a republican.

The only republican celebs that I will judge are those that gave money and openly supported Bush. In that sense I would check Newsmeat. It gives a list of who gave money to whom.

This is one of those republican "we have celebs too". Sure enough they have some stupid wealthy, extremely greedy types smong them too. Hollywood types have huge egos so I'm sure you'll find more than a few repukes in that crowd.

34. Yes, sadly Alice Cooper is a Republican.
Alec Baldwin is not, but his untalented brother Stephen is. Apparently a recent "born again" who adopted the Dennis Miller/Ron Silver method of going nazi to save a failing career.

Toby Keith is a "registered Democrat" like Zell Miller is one. Dolly Parton though, I find it really hard to believe would be a right winger. Reportedly she's singing some 60's protest songs on her current tour.

47.  A few years ago it was rumored that Dolly may own a toaster oven herself.
...If I remember correctly the story was that she was in a long term relationship with her (female) hairdresser, and that was why her husband never went on the road. Some of my gay friends insisted the story was true but I never heard of any further verification.

I can imagine it would kill some redneck fantasies though. ;)

41. I think Dale Earnhardt Jr came around after "Fahrenheit 9/11."
Also, during the Aniston/Pitt breakup, many celebrity gossip-types eluded to political strife causing tension in their marriage, because Jennifer Aniston openly supported Bush in '04.

I once saw Kevin Costner on Bill Maher's HBO show, and a dumber actor I've never witnessed.

Finally, the one on the Repub list that really got me... PRINCE.

As a practicing Jehova's Witness, he shouldn't be involved in politics, as the only government they recognize is that of Jehova Himself.

Well, it looks like our side has Kim Basinger, Salma Hayak and Cindy Crawford.... their side has Shannon Dougherty, Kathy Lee Gifford and Bob Barker!

Yeah Ann, you fucking witch, I do see your point! tee hee

Ron Silver, Marilyn Manson, Jessica Simpson (she is actually Donald Rumsfeld's goddaughter, I have heard), Britney Spears, Patricia Heaton, Diane Sawyer, Danny Aiello, Robert Duvall, Tom Selleck, Reba Mc Intyre, Kevin Costner, Mel Gibson, Bruce Willis, and Pat Sajak.

Just to name a few...

50. To tell you the truth I don't care much...
The simple fact of a persons political affiliation is not enough in and of itself to boycott their movies...everyone is entitled to their opinion. I have many Republican friends.

It's when they become obnoxious about it, like Dennis Miller and Ron Silver, that I get turned off.

Bruce WIllis is a great actor making great movies, and his political affiliation doesn't seem to keep Democrats from working with him in movies. The same is true with most on that list!

I know it seems petty, but I do not one dollar of my hard-earned money to be passed on to the RNC, thank you.

Just as I "Buy Blue" as much as possible, I also get my entertainment from "Blues" as much as I possibly can. We have to be careful whom we subsidize these days.

63. Eveyone has their own way I guess...for me
I won't boycott a good movie simply because there are Republican actors in it, and I won't go see a bad movie because there are Democratic actors in it.

Of course, looking at the number of A list actors on the Democratic list compared to the number of A list actors of the Republican, it usually isn't a problem!

68. It just usually works for me, that I seem to like films and music
from Democrats, anyway.

John Lennon (and the Beatles), Don Henley (and the Eagles), CSN&Y, Stevie Nicks (and Fleetwood Mack), Bonnie Raitt, Marvin Gaye... all progressive and all favorites.

"To Kill a Mockingbird" (my favorite movie)-- starred Gregory Peck, one of the most progressive actors, politically, of his generation. I can't think of a movie made by Paul Newman that wasn't magnificent. With a few exceptions, the same can be said for the movies of Robert Redford (He directed another of my favorite movies, "The Milagro Beanfield War"). "Moonstruck" (don't know what Cher is, politically, but I know she isn't a Republican). I also like anything that has John Cusack in it ("High Fidelity" was great!), and anything with Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks, or Kathy Bates.

Foreign films (love them!) are harder to guage, but I will not watch anything with Gerard Depardieu, because he has admitted belonging to a "rape gang" in his youth, and said he didn't think it was wrong, because "the girls liked it". *shudder* I also avoid films (sadly....) with Sean Connery in them because I read he believes that wives and girlfriends need a good beating every so often to keep them in line.

Think about it... You might already have tastes that allow you to "boycott" painlessly.

TC

100. One thing with movies to keep in mind is
Edited on Mon Sep-05-05 03:26 AM by fujiyama
that while one star may be a puke (like Willis) he will just as likely have costars that are liberal. Also, it's also likely in most cases that the writers, producers, director, and others may be liberals. Also, it's possible that a movie starring a liberal has a repuke director or producer.

That said, most movies coming out of Hollywood in recent years have sucked anyways, so I'd say that's a better reason to boycott. Unless a film blatantly has a RW slant, boycotting it because of one actor's politics makes little sense.

Some of these people were considered Republicans before the dark times... before the Bush Administration. The definition has gotten a lot more extreme in the last few years, and I'd give my left nut if we could go back to when our differences boiled down to the size of government.

are an active hate group.

They countenece racism, greed, religious persecution, sexism, and classism.

Anyone who self-identifies as such loses my respect, and my good will. I will not subsideize them through support for thier "art". Sorry, we need to draw the line at "acceptance" of the current regime and the way they do things, The people who agree with them and join them are complicit.

119. Like I tell my mom...
when she sees a politician on TV and goes "Oh he's a republican?, I like him".

If you like him, chances are you don't know his stances on the issues.

Caring and warm hearted people don't force others to conform to their religious beliefs rather then that person's own, or consider equality a threat, or <insert any of hundreds of things conservatives and republicans do that piss you off here> but maybe I'm thinking of a different group of people.

I don't exactly hear droves of republicans condeming Bush's actions, and on the rare occaison that they do, they are usually a minority so small as to be insignificant. So for reasonable caring people they sure are pushing this shit agenda with both hands. Just my opinion.
