* Found Time For Another Recess Appointment
Bush Sneaks In Another Recess Appointment
<http://talkleft.com/new_archives/012101.html>
While no one was looking, in the middle of the disaster in New Orleans, Bush found time Wednesday to bypass the Senate and appoint Alice Fisher as Chief of the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice in a recess appointment.

Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., had blocked the nomination because he wants to talk to an agent who named Fisher in an e-mail about allegedly abusive interrogations at the U.S. military prison camp at Guantanamo. Fisher can serve until January 2007.

There isn't any mention of the appointment on the Department of Justice's website or the White House site.
--------------------------------------------------------------
I googled her name and here is what I found:

In 2001, Michael Chertoff -- now secretary of Homeland Security -- picked Fisher to serve as his deputy assistant attorney general in DOJ's Criminal Division. Fisher supervised about 160 prosecutors and employees, primarily guiding the counterterrorism and fraud sections.

snip...

Fisher first worked with Chertoff in 1995, when he hired her as deputy special counsel to the Senate Whitewater investigation. She had graduated from the Catholic University of America School of Law in 1993, and worked as a litigation associate in the Washington office of New York-based Sullivan & Cromwell.

Then Chertoff brought her into the Senate investigation of investments that President Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton made in the troubled Whitewater Development Corp.

13. Thanks "319 Posts"
The National Guard General that was (I don't know if he still is now) in charge had stated the pressing issue should be to get the victims that are ALIVE out so they too don't become dead. There was an interview done by Sheppard Smith (I think) about a woman that was rescued from her submerged house just to be deposited on the bridge of I-10. It was there her husband died in the night. To me that is INEXCUSABLE. The survivors need to be evacuated from the flooded ares to a place where they can receive help. I don't think that a recess appointment is something to get worked about when there is human suffering going on. I was merely pointing out that any president is within the authority of the presidency to do so.

6. Is this why GOP leaders in the Senate and House DELAYED ...
... in convening early to approve special funding for the Katrina disaster??? After all, Pelosi was urging immediate reconvening and they refused.

9. Not the First Time
Remember that just about the first thing Bush did after the September 11th terrorist attacks--when all the world was in complete shock and mourning, trying to come together as a peaceful world--was to raid the Social Security trust fund. It was immediately after. This is one horrible bastard; that whole Administration is.
