Beware the chaff
'Chaff' is one method of radar avoidance. An airplane releases material (often confetti-like stuff made of metal) that confuses tracking radar to the point the airplane evades positive detection.

Any avoidance maneuver that involves overloading the viewing entity is now commonly called chaff. And if you're interested in this arcane bit of science, you need only watch tomorrow morning's teevee political yak shows to see it in action.

There are many facts that are swirling in the waters of New Orleans. Who called who when. Who knew what when. Who did or didn't fund or defund levee improvement projects. Who did or didn't call out the Guard. Who was or wasn't competent to do the job correctly.

And after tomorrow's Category 5 Chaff Storm, the facts will become as muddy as the Mighty Mississippi.

And that's all idiot son needs for cover.

Muddy facts.

Easy to spin.

Easy to obfuscate.

Easy to divert.

Easy to co-opt.

Easy to control.

Chaff .... the stuff of political success.

1. Similar to Plamegate--
the story seems clear enough to us, but when you try to explain it all to the average person w/ limited time and attn, it's only too easy for them to throw up their hands and say "there's two sides to every story."

2. People were drowning
and bush was on vacation and no one could reach him. That's where the story begins and ends IMO.

3. Everyday people are outraged.
I don't think chaff's going to cut it this time.

I really don't.
