"Nobody could have forseen that Rehnquist would die." |
|
Some talking heads are acting like this is all so difficult for Chimpy, "at an already difficult moment in his presidency."
They've already got their pick lined up. Rehnquist's death is no sudden tragedy.

2. Oh, please. Half the coverage of Roberts has been about |
|
Whether the Dems would fight him tooth and nail or hold their fire for when Renquist retired or died. There's nobody who DIDN'T know that Smirk would be faced with at least two vacancies on the court.

He's been at death's door for months, hasn't he?
I'm certainly not going to be saying that I'm glad he's dead or anything like that, and I'm sure his family is grieving but c'mon- the passing of an 80 year old former Justice in poor health pales in comparison to what's going on in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.

4. Well, you know it is something of a surprise. The Repukes have |
|
experience with animatrons, including Dick Cheney. Although it usually takes several weeks to recharge Cheney, he almost looks like a human being (although design flaws keep him from acting like a human being) when he's running.
Some people think that they also kept Ronald Reagan alive for several years, though a flaw in the system apparently shorted out the memory banks.
My guess is that they unplugged Rehnquist because they have a new model available, one that can do more destruction more efficiently at lower cost.

Nobody knew. I just thought that old people with cancer went on living and living, forever. On a serious note, I believe that Rehnquist did not retire, as O'Connor did, because at some point Rehnquist realized what an anti-American, anti-civilized nightmare Bush was, and was trying desperately to live, to the next President's term. Maybe not, but I think a possibility. Otherwise, why not retire? This was possibly Rehnquist's heroic attempt--I don't know.

9. Actually, it's because he loved his job |
|
There were a lot of fawning bios last night, and they all pointed out that since his wife died in the 90s, his life has been the Court, and he really loved it. And he was also looking forward to having Roberts on the bench.
I doubt he had any misgivings about installing Smirk.

11. Thank You for Clearing This Up, and Leaving the Correct Impression |
|
Thank you for the reply. I know what an arch-conservative Rehnquist was (against Roe v. Wade, etc.), and I was a little worried that my speculation may have given a too-favorable explanation where it was not deserved. Rehnquist was as horrible on the bench as Scalia and all the rest; I just wondered about the situation of not retiring when so obviously sick.

10. And not just that Rehnquist would die, but . . . |

Did you know that this creates another vacancy on the Supreme Court? Nobody could have predicted that!

12. LOL; thanks for that. All this foresight...it's hard work... |

Hey Sparkly, some times folks don't get the humor unless the joke light's lit.
Doncha just love Junior? If he wasn't habitually destroying the world, I'd be laughing all day long. Everything's so simple. Nothing's their fault. He's a decisive and manly leader at every turn, even when he's on vacation and can't respond to a major catastrophe. Nobody could foresee things that have been so overwhelmingly documented that a bibliography would clog an Enron shredder. There were endless studies on New Orleans' vulnerability. There were numerous warnings about planes being used as missiles.
It's hard work. If those no-account drownees couldn't get out of town, it's because they're lazy.
As for the demise of Bigotry Bill, I'm with you on that one: I'm sure they've got some latter-day Roland Friesler all set to spring on us.
