My letter to my Senator. Post yours too! |
|
Dear Senator,
I am writing in regard to the absolute failure of FEMA to respond to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. I have never seen such total disregard for the citizens in that area and the taxpayers in the United States. I am outraged about the response of this government to the people in all of the areas affected. And I am furious that this highly significant area of the country was allowed to degenerate; resulting in what will now be billions of dollars in repair and reconstruction.
All I have heard from FEMA, Congress, the Bush administration and every single administrator that has been paraded before us is one excuse after another. For shame. When were we going to be told that FEMA had essentially been gutted financially? Who planned on informing us that nearly all of the people who work in FEMA are new hires, inexperienced or cronies of the Bush administration? By what right has Congress and the executive branch determined that we, the public, do not need to know the far reaching impact of what is now a privately run agency? Exactly when was the Pentagon going to inform the public that we are essentially on our own when or if a crisis hits another community?
I have never, never, felt more disgusted than I am today with this government. As far as I am concerned, every member of Congress is guilty of at least one thing and that one thing is cowardice. When the best officeholders have to offer Americans is a day after day TV image of a totally alone elderly woman, dead in a wheelchair outside the Superdome of New Orleans....well then every government representative might as well leave office. You have all truly become that useless. It is clear to me that not only does this government intend to rob me of Social Security in my senior years, it also intends to kill me.
Sincerely,
|
Lorien

I'm still too emotional about the subject to compose anything effective, but I will write soon.

I have no Senator in America, of course, but maybe I can still write to one of yours? Does someone here have a Senator who would maybe read my letter from Deutschland? I think maybe because I can not vote in America that they will just throw away my letter if I write. I don't know?

5. I wrote Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (She is GREAT) |
|
Dear Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, For two days now, I have been writing letters to my Republican Representative and Senators in Texas although they have long since ceased to represent my interests choosing instead to represent big business, corporate greed and partisan politics even when they are literally dead wrong. Nonetheless, I am outraged at the colossal failure of my "President" and the Federal Government to respond immediately to the needs of the Americans (not refugees) stranded in New Orleans and the other victims of Hurricane Katrina. I am shocked that this administration who, since 9-11 has bragged openly that they are the only ones who can "keep us safe here at home" failed to respond to a disaster that CAME WITH A WARNING. The incompetence of "President" Bush was horrifying to me. I have been writing to so many government officials to express my outrage, hopefully not in vain. I am still so appalled that the Federal Government failed Americans in such public and colossal way. I am grateful and glad to see the progress but Mayor Nagin was right when I heard him on Friday, September 2, “It’s too late.” It’s great that after an entire week there is “progress” but what is true is that THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS DIED BECAUSE BUSH DID NOTHING FOR DAYS after Katrina hit. That’s the truth. The Federal Government, and this particular administration who has bragged since 9-11 that they are the only ones who can “keep us safe here at home.” They failed to respond to a disaster that came with a warning. Now is the time for them to take responsibility NOT pass the buck. Scott McClellan is wrong…they are playing the blame game, the blame anyone but us game. In light of Katrina, and the colossal failure of the Federal Government and President Bush to respond immediately to the needs of the American people affected by this disaster which, again, came with a warning I think that all resources and all efforts should be focused on assisting the millions of Americans who will need so much help, the clean-up (especially the environmental clean-up), the investigation (NOT LED BY BUSH) as to how this incompetence prevailed while thousands of Americans died from lack of water...look, what I am saying is that I think it would be appalling for Congress to go on with "business as usual" given the circumstances in the Gulf Region. Furthermore, I think that Congress should immediately repeal the "bankruptcy bill" and the "President's" tax cuts for the wealthy. I want the Supreme Court Justice issue put on the back burner. Americans cannot be distracted by these formal proceedings while fellow Americans suffer and there is so much work to be done. Like I have written my Representative, my Senators although they have long since ceased to represent me. I have written so many letters to my government officials and I will keep doing so even though it is absurd and seems pointless to me given the insanity of my "President" and his administration. I am grateful for leaders like you during these trying times. Thank you.
