I have seen hundreds of photo's from NO. Blacks are helping Whites, Whites are helping blacks. The people are not racist! They are for the most part, good and loving people. The common denominator is that none of them are from King Georges base, the haves and the have mores. Bush and his minions don't give a fuck what color you are. If you are poor or disabled, you are just another expendable surf who can be replaced by even cheaper forign labor. The attitude they have toward the peasants is exactly the same arrogance that led to the French, Russian and Cuban revolution. As they continue to suck the blood out of what remains of the middle class, they are sowing the seeds of yet another revolution.

Personally, after seeing civilization turn to survival of the fittest in NO, I am going out to buy some guns. I would never think of useing them on Gods animal friends but I can sure see the writing on the wall from a government "drowned in a bathtub!"

1. The two are inextricable
You cannot talk about one without the other.

17. It's BLATANTLY racist...BUT CLASS is truly in the mix as well
See, people ASSUME things about certain groups of people. It's all over the nasty RW and even moderate DEM radio shows. 'Why didn't those folks get out when they were told to. 'Why didn't they provide for their needs before hand instead of "looting", looting is just wrong' (I guess they forgot ole' Rummy saying "stuff happens" when people are OPPRESSED when they looted baghdad after it's fall) Who are the MOST oppressed and stigmatized group of people in this country still, besides the Native Americans???

O'liely said it is incumbent upon people to NEVER EVER depend on the government to help them. Most of the people in NOLA are BLACK and POOR. Mississippi is well known for it's racist attitudes to this day AND it is the poorest state in the union...LA is not far behind.

Then the fear to go into the city because those oppressed blacks are wielding guns now...AS IF all the people were wielding guns. Idiots were "scared" of so called "black rage". Jesus Christ, who wouldn't be in a state of rage in that predicament?

People in the North: Yankees just don't get it, they don't see the subtleties of this insidious bias. The assumption that there was WIDE ranging anarchy due to gun toting "gangs" is what people ALWAYS assume will be the case in mostly black communities. Even the WHITE people who were stranded in white areas were reluctant to go to the shelter with "all those black folk". In reality we saw goodness and people of all races helping each other...but that didn't translate to the powers that be, so they waited. Reminds me of the civil rights knee jerk crap when the south exploded because of racism.

White supremest, Skin heads are more dangerous. THEY actually blow shit up!

It's been a political, biased, incompetent clusterfuck right from the get go!

I FINALLY spoke with my neighbor (who happens to be a black american woman from LA) I asked her if her family was alright. She said yes. We talked about the mess that unfolded in front of our eyes...and I mean in MS too. She gently told me that what "went wrong" especially in NOLA was typical of what life is like in the south to this day. She was intelligent enough to say, too, that CLASSISM--poverty ALSO plays a huge part .............

so there ya have it, my 50 cents.

O'Shrilly said:

Okay ... then they should NEVER EVER have to pay any taxes. Look, nazi fuckheads, what is so difficult to grasp about the concept that when the govt. rescues you in a situation like this, you're merely getting some of your tax money back? I would think even a child could grasp that concept.

2. It probably doesn't help that the majority are black
there's a good chance that helped them into their poverty, but I agree its poverty that is the root of the disastrous aftermath and the slow response.

3. You nailed it. It's ALWAYS been about class war
The rethugs have been waging this war all along... it was escalated and major victories were won by the elite under Ray-gun. We've been struggling ever since.

IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT CLASS.

6. Um, I don't recall anyone here saying 'the people' were racist
I recall people here saying the treatment of those left behind WAS RACIST.

You said it, bushco doesn't care about what color you are--because they DON'T SEE colors other than white--wealthy whites. Period.

They didn't see these people--because they are black. To bushco they merely don't exist.

Call it what you like.

7. What about the "white ones?"
Are they black too? Or just too poor to matter. Really, Bush only cares about how much money is in your wallet, not what color you are. We would be in Somalia if they had oil!

8. so you think that if the Superdome
Edited on Sun Sep-04-05 08:23 PM by neoteric lefty
had been filled with poor, blonde-haired, blue-eyes Britneys and Jacks that they would have waited as long as they did for supplies? I think the blackhawks would have been touching down in the parking lot 12 hours after the storm had passed to airlift them out.

The treatment of these poor souls is not ALL about race or ALL about class, its a combination of the two, IMHO. To say that its all one OR all the other seems more than a bit naive to me.

10. That's why every American who is responsible enough...
to own a firearm should. The Framers put the 2nd Amendment into the Bill of Rights for a good reason. They wanted to be sure that you could protect you and yours, not just from common criminals, but from a tyrannical government.

You are absolutely right that it was the criminal indfference, and the isolation of the upper class that has led to many revolutions, particularly the French Revolution in 1789. I can't help but wonder about history repeating itself, what with Bush and the cake and all. I'd hate to see the U.S. suffer through a revolution or civil war. I wonder what lies in the days to come...

18. Ok
So you're sitting in the N.O. convention center with your 357 Magnum and your AK47 and you're going to get water and food quicker than your unarmed brothers and sisters how??????

It has NOTHING to do with whether you have a bunch of guns or not. The upper classes are brought down by the "withholding of obedience". Once a critical mass say "fuck you" to the power structure and deny them their acquiescence, it's all over. That's what happened in Romania, Poland, Checkoslovakia, etc. without a shot being fired.

I think that this silly notion that if the citizens are armed they can't be tyrannized is thoroughly disproved by the takeover of this country by incompetent right-wing fundies.

13. Race has been a big part of revolutions in Cuba and Venezuela
In Cuba: A New History, Richard Gott writes extensively about the role of race in Cuba's history. It was all new to me, and very interesting.

Aleida Guevara's book about Chavez also talks about the important part race played in that revolution.

14. The race charge just won't stick!
There is no evidence that Bush hates black people. However, I believe there is quite a bit of evidence that Bush has complete contempt for poor people.

19. I have lived in the U.S. all my life
I lived in the Jim Crow south in the 50's and 60's and was taught from childhood through early adulthood many of the attitudes of that time and place. The attitudes and opinions and stereotypes of Racism permeated the air we breathed and the water we drank and the food we ate.

I have NEVER known a white person who wasn't at some level tainted by the disease of Racism. For anyone to deny the power and prevalence of Racism in this country (and every other white-dominant country I know of) is to remain ignorant of a great and important truth...and by remaining ignorant, perpetuating the sickness of Racism.

I am a white male.

I know I have ingrained racist attitudes and training that I fight every day of my life. Knowing this fact gives me hope for redemption.

15. I agree with your post, I have no doubt if
the majority in NO was white and poor the outcome would have been the same.

To say Bush hates blacks, you would also have to say he hates, the sick, old, and middle class.
He doesn't hate any of them, he just doesn't GIVE A DAMM ABOUT ANY OF THEM. This is without a doubt, about CLASS...

We all know he cares about one thing and that's the wealthy, I'm still waiting for the red states to "GET IT"!!! And frankly, his father was the same way....just not as BLATANT!!!

Apparently the republicans have.

Or the disabled.
They were left behind too.

Basically .. if you are anything but
a right-wing born-again freeped-out
racist pigfucker.... you were left to die.
Simple as that.
