A double standard on looting
I couldn't believe my ears when I heard President Bush say that our government has "zero tolerance" for looting for the areas ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. Moreover, White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan said that even if people need food, water and clothing, it is inexcusable for these people to loot stores to get these items.
This is coming from the same administration that de facto encouraged looting in Iraq; Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said that the Iraqis' looting was "blowing off steam."
I guess our government thinks it's OK to loot in Iraq but not in the United States even when people may die because they don't have tools for survival. Let's get real: Wouldn't you loot a store if you haven't had food or water for three days, and there was no sign you would get those supplies today?
