Miles O'Brien on CNN, says Bush in "turf war" with LA governor

O'Brien talking with reporter in Baton Rouge, pondering why the Governor won't be present for Bush's photo op today in LA. Can't imagine why the governor would not be there when president was coming. Ponders that President has offered to "federalize" entire relief effort, cannot imagine why governor would not want that help. Says, can't believe there is a turf war at a time like this. Comments on "tense" "bitter" phone calls between feds and state.

Clearly suggesting that it is the governor who is having the problem.

Makes me sick.

23. I don't think the help got there much faster, they just keeping mum
Barbour said the other night, things are good, but really he didn't get meals in MI from feds until Friday. The LT Governor of MI today kept saying, there will be time to evaluate what happened later, now I am focused on helping those that need help. Reporters say MI in tough shape.

3. Miles is misrepresenting the whole thing.
"Federalizing" is not a necessary requirement to get the full force of the federal government's help. It's all a ploy by Bush and Rove.

would be demoralized if NO NG was brought under federal control, as if it would be an afront to them personally.

31. Trying to deflect blame
Rove is scrambling to deflect blame from AWOL. Create some confusion about who is in charge and begin blaming local authorities for the mess. Sad thing -- it will probably work.

It's easier to cover their asses if they're in control of everything.

11. Yep - that's the plan.
Make it all Blanco and Nagin's fault - why, FEMA was just doing everything they could - manning rescue boats, swimming to save people, handing out their last bottle of water. . .

Rovian spin at its best. Bush wasn't having cake and strumming a guitar - he was trying to organize his own rescue efforts.

and she is leaving to go to Houston - maybe just coincidence, maybe .... clear overtones that she was the one with the problem.

20. He would nationalize all of LA.
What about Mississippi and Alabama? Hit very hard too. Screw up is the broken levee and their slow response. Bush stopped the NG from going in until he said so. She is right. Protecting her people that is why she has Witt involved. He is sane and Brown is not and neither is Chertoff or bush. Condi is defending bush to the black people what a whore. bush is totally incompetent and should resign.

19. Has O'Brien been to the scene?
I can't remember which station he's on and I only watch MSNBC (because they actually have the balls to put Keith Olbermann on, daily, even though they're just as Reich-wing, for the most part, as CNN and Faux).

I think many of the "reporters" still spewing the WH talking points either haven't been to NOLA or must be heartless asses.

Easy to spew the WH talking points when you don't see the results of BushCo.'s in-action and incompetence up-close and personal.

26. Miles O'Brien: the junta's water carrier
O'Brien has been spouting WHouse memes since yesterday--at least (probably forever.) Anyway, he was trying to lead Honore into condemnation of Blanco, and Honore kept skirting the issue with an assessment of where the rescue efforts needed to go: "the second half."
After O'Brien's third try at badgering Honore, the General said (paraphrasing) that he heard the question, and that O'Brien needed to ask that question of the "big brains." O'Brien must have been surprised that there was someone who refuses to take the bait.

I don't know in which political direction Honore leans; or maybe like some officers who wear USA on their collars, he takes his non-partisanship seriously. If so, putting someone in charge for their ability rather than their politically toadding, would be a first for the diabolical junta, a slip-up in Mordor-on-the-hill.
