2. I doubt it.
I think he is set to take over in case Bush is forced to resign.

6. Now, why in the hell would he do that?
He is the one who is working for the oil companies in this adminstration. He is the one looking out for Bush because he knows he needs Bush way too bad. And, if this turns bad, he'll get the presidency because of it. Remember, he knew a long time ago that there was no chance in hell that he would EVER get elected.

8. and then they bring in somebody to groom to succeed Bush?
is that they're thinking?

If so, who is the most likely - Rudy Giuliani (who is acceptable to Pat Robertson) or maybe McCain now that he is sucking up to Bush?

11. I have said since Nov. 3, 2004 that this was their plan
I don't know who it will be (I don't think it can be Jeb), but I think this has been their plan all along. I'm sure they have groomed someone (just like Shrub was groomed) and have him waiting in the wings for just the right moment - within the next year. That way (as I think they are thinking) the American people will get to know this person (name recognition) and then (if all goes according to their diabolical plan - otherwise known as Operation Diebold) vote for him in '08. I think their replacement will be a relative unknown, someone without too much on-the-surface controversy in their life. I'm guessing that by the end of the fiscal year, we will have a replacement for Darth Cheney.

19. DOCTOR Bill Frist
Who - for a few days only - will open up his mega "for profit" chain of hospitals for "family doctor" services to the displaced - and replace Marcus Welby MD, Dr. Koop and Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Dr. Howard Dean as "America's Family Doctor."

10. I am not concerned that Cheney is gone or about to leave.
His disappearnace probably signifies something much more ominous than the demise of one evil bastard. I think he is positioned to take charge of something very sinister that will horrify us all. Al Gore personally went to 17 natural disaster sites. This guy sends his chimp for photo ops while he gets ready to finish what he set out to do when he made himself the VP candiadate in 2000.

12. he just cancelled his trip to Canada (for this week) due to Katrina
though he couldn't be bothered to leave Wyoming and vacation while the disaster was unfolding.

He won't resign. He has to make sure that Haliburton keeps getting more and more govt contracts (they just got a clean up in N.O. one last week) - in order to keep pumping up the value of his "deferred compensation and stock options".

WP: Where the Rumsfelds Retreat, The Cheneys Soon Could Follow
Cheney has been spotted, picking out real estate on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I would think he should be looking at a place nearer Levenworth, but Dick wants to spend his last days as a free man shooting ducks with Rummy.

ST. MICHAELS, Md. -- They've grown used to having a secretary of defense in their midst -- the way his weekend estate is tucked behind a bend in the road, how he takes casual walks tailed by dark SUVs. Now, residents of this Eastern Shore retreat are preparing for someone even bigger to buy a house down the road: the vice president.

"I'd heard it was going to close either Tuesday or Wednesday of this week," Carroll Hurley, a funeral home owner, said Saturday, seated with his breakfast gang at the Carpenter Street saloon and restaurant.

Is Vice President Cheney house hunting? (Manuel Balce Ceneta - AP)
Whether it's true -- that Dick and Lynne Cheney are buying an estate here -- could not be confirmed. Those closest to the deal -- Cheney's office, the purported sellers, the listing agent -- aren't talking. Hurley admits he's not certain: "All I have is hearsay. It wouldn't stand up in court."

Still, a nosy visit here leaves a person with one of two possibilities: Either the Cheneys are coming or a lot of people have bad information. Police Chief Ed Henry -- who breakfasted along with Hurley -- even referred to the lot in question as "Cheney's house."

The house, listed at $2.9 million, backs up in spectacular fashion to an inlet of the Chesapeake Bay. "Right out by Rumsfeld's," said Charles Mangold Sr., whose Benson & Mangold agency brokers high-end estates in the area. "It's under contract, but he hasn't settled yet."

Reaction to the two men's presence is embedded into everyday conversation -- even as residents take pride in taking it all in stride. They tick off celebrities who have lived in or visited the area: Margaret Thatcher, Walter Cronkite, James Michener, Yasser Arafat and Vince Vaughan -- the latest during nearby filming of "Wedding Crashers."

Residents joke about the occasional helicopter overhead and what flavor Rumsfeld gets at Justine's Ice Cream parlor. SNIP
