mall wart to the rescue!
Just watched the Clinton/poppy press conference. poppy went on & on (& Clinton gave a plug, too) about how mall wart stepped up & has offered jobs in any current employee to any mall wart in the country. So, if they leave their homes & move to say, texas, they can immediately go to work for low pay, no benefits, crap work conditions. Woo hoo!

Also said how mall wart gave several millions & the sam walton foundation gave several million. Woo hoo! No talk about how their crap wages may have played a part in the poor not being able to get the hell out of the way of Katrina because they didn't make a living wage, couldn't afford a car, had no way to evacuate.

But, hey! mall wart to the rescue!

2. my guess is
Clinton is doing that so other companies feel shamed into doing the same, many of those may be higher paying companies.

I hate wal mart too, but in this case, they are doing the right thing, and other companies should do likewise.

3. sure, now they're doing the right thing.
I just hate mall wart so much & everything they stand for, I absolutely refuse to change my opinion of them because for once they step up.

Plenty of companies are doing good. Tillamook Cheese company gave 20,000 lbs of cheese to a trucker who was shipping goods down. I don't even remember what else other firms donated, but it was impressive. And, I'm sure they were giving immediately, & also planning on giving more as the need arises.

4. Mal Wart...F#$k them. The NYT reported thi s week that although
some large companies continued to pay employees in the affected areas, Wal Mart, UPS, and McDonalds cut off employee pay after the 4th day.

6. Yeah, okay, they're giving money.
Good for them. But there are plenty of companies doing good & that mall wart was singled out in the press conference by both poppy & Clinton pisses me off. Of all the companies giving, why must they be given almost special recognition? It was reported that the casinos are paying their employees for the next 3 months. I didn't hear a word about that.

Also, let's think about how mall wart has basically taken advantage of their workers, the communities, etc.

mall wart: destroying communities to bring you cheap hair dryers.

7. I believe that Nagin and Blanco have both singled them out as
well. Sadly, I haven't seen some of their blue competitors stepping up to the plate in equal numbers. I'm very disappointed in that.

10. I just googled Costco and Katrina....
I found no news on where Costco as a corporation has donated anything to a Katrina relief fund. I did see where they had a good 4th quarter.

Perhaps I missed something?

11. here
ttp://www.thewgalchannel.com/news/4931346/detail.html

http://www.costco.com/Service/FeaturePage.aspx?ProductNo=11075353

http://gofugyourself.typepad.com/ This lists dozens of companies & their donations.

Again, why does mallwart get special mention?

Also, our local costco helped fill a tractor trailer. The trucker just decided on his own to take supplies down. The response was overwhelming.

12. You are very misguided in what you are saying
Wal-Mart headquarters is in AR-Sam Walton started there. When Clinton was Governor - Sam Walton worked with Clinton always, always to give contracts to the people from AR - to provide jobs in all areas - this obviously was a lot of years ago. Hillary was on their Board of Directors for awhile. Wal-Mart is very much a Republican oriented company now but they didn't have to donate squat and they did and will continue to do so.
