Message to Sen. Trent Lott (R) re Katrina
Dear Mr. Lott,

I am outraged by your comments that you are "pleased" with the response to Hurricane Katrina. I cannot imagine a more inhuman thing to say. I cannot imagine a "Christian" saying such a thing as that. This was a miserable failure on the part of the Federal Government. I am outraged that my Federal Government has failed me and millions of other Americans as well. You are wrong Senator! NOW IS THE TIME TO HOLD THIS ADMINISTRATION ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS COLOSSAL FAILURE! This was a "natural disaster" that was foreseeable, even anticipated, it was made worse by the "man-made" disaster of a response. For an administration that brags about "keeping us safer here at home" it's DISGRACEFUL! This is America and we now look incompetent to the entire world which makes us quite vulnerable. I am appalled that you can defend Bush and his people at this time. I know that FEMA was dismantled by this administration and that the levee projects were not adequately funded. I know that this colossal failure was not the fault of the Governor or the Mayor. It only adds insult to injury that you are now trying to blame state and local officials for this gross and criminal negligence. You should be ashamed! Anyone who says this was an adequate response should be ashamed.

2. DIdn't you hear what they just said on TV..

I think MSNBC or CNN was comparing what Lott said early on (the quote you refer to above) and now. I think it was Cooper Anderson who quoted Lott as having recently said that FEMA "needs to stop saying 'no' to Mississippians."

That was just on.
