How can we keep the Senate from approving Roberts until we hear who

How can we keep the Senate from approving Roberts until we hear who
Bush nominates to replace O'Connor. We have a position of power here. If we do not approve Roberts, we can make DipShit nominate someone who isn't so revolting to us. If we go ahead and approve Roberts we lose that position. What can we do?

1. I don't think we can.
At this point, no Democratic senator has indicated they will oppose Roberts. And you need 40 to filibuster to stop him. The numbers just aren't there.

W gets to win this one.

Is there any doubt as to the type of person he will appoint? My guess is Janice Rogers Brown. She is super conservative, his base loves her, and he gets to play both the race card and the sex card at the same time.

Other possibility is Gonzales. Personal friend-crony and Mexican/American so he plays a new race card with an important demographic.
