What is his health like? Can he hold out for three and a half years? If W gets to replace him, that will be another young conservative on the court.

7. I'd be all in favor of a Weekend at Bernie's-type arrangement.
I'd make it a full-time job, at least until the Dems control the Senate again.

2. From all reports, he's still doing quite well.
A very sharp man. I don't remember where, but there was an article earlier this year speculating on possible retirements, and he was mentioned in this status.

I think he can do it. And if he can, so can I.

3. I know. I worry. And Ginsberg's apparently not well.
I keep thinking, if that ratfucker Thurmond could hang on till he hit 100 years, these guys can hold on for another three and a half, dammit...

9. That's why 2006 Matters
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 03:35 PM by Mr_King
I believe Stevens can make it to Janurary of 2007 when the next Congress takes over. That's why it's soooo important the Democrats take control of the Senate that way we'd have the majority and the Chairmanship of the Judiciary Commitee. Bush would not be able to pass a ragging neo-conservative to the bench. He'd probably could try but his nominee wouldn't get on the Surpreme Court.

This is how we kept Bork off the bench. We need the Congress to keep Bush's agenda in check for the last 2 years of his term, atleast we need the Senate.

10. That's why 2004 mattered.
Maybe now the danger is a little more real to people. I can only hope that's the case.

13. Neither Ginsberg nor Stevens will retire while Bush is Prez
Bank on it.

Only death will allow Bush to appoint successors.
