Today I am still appalled and outraged
that the Federal Government failed Americans in such public and colossal way. I am grateful and glad to see the progress but Mayor Nagin was right when I heard him on Friday, September 2, “It’s too late.” It’s great that after an entire week there is “progress” but what is true is that THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS DIED BECAUSE BUSH DID NOTHING FOR DAYS after Katrina hit. That’s the truth. The Federal Government, and this particular administration who has bragged since 9-11 that they are the only ones who can “keep us safe here at home.” They failed to respond to a disaster that came with a warning. Now is the time for them to take responsibility NOT pass the buck. Scott McClellan is wrong…they are playing the blame game, the blame anyone but us game. I intend to let them know that they are wrong and I hope others will do the same. Here are some links to the White House. Contact these people and let them know what you think.

1. appalled and outraged are insufficient to describe this catastrophe . . .
in fact, in my vocabulary I have yet to summon up words equal to the task . . . disgusted? . . . horrified? . . . enraged? . . . none come close to describing what I'm feeling . . . I may have to invent a new word to have a way of communicating the depth of my outrage . . .

2. Never forget....
The Reich Wing loves to trot out images of 9/11 with the words "Never forget" or some similar sentiment. I would love to see posters, t-shirts, bumperstickers, whatever, with images from Katrina and the words "Never forget". And I really want to see the photos of Bush eating cake and playing guitar alongside the images of horror and despair.

3. Here's my email to the White House
I am outraged that the U.S government has screwed up again, and look how many people have died, as a direct result of the incompetence of those in charge.

FEMA is a total failure. They have had to call in the former director of FEMA to get some direction. This is disgusting that the present director is so inept.

The whole world is shaking their heads, wondering how the RICHEST nation could screw things up so BAD! The whole world sees how the U.S government treats it's 'other America'. It's shameful how these people were allowed to die! Fidel Castro offered help, doctors.. why don't we allow this help to come?? Why hold onto old crap, when people are dying?? Iran has offered oil, but has our GREAT leader accepted this generous offer in our time of need??

Our GREAT leader has left the homeland vulnerable, and as a direct result of his budget cuts, thousands have died. While the pople were dying, our GREAT leader was golfing! The world see what we already know. This current Administration has been a complete failure!!! And We the people want to see heads roll for this latest snafu.

The only positive in this is that our GREAT leader will probably not be able to wage another illegal war, on Iran. How can we possibly survive another 3 years of this former drunk/coke addict?? Shame on you, W!!! You WILL be held accountable!!

4. I like your letter. The whole world is watching, you're right, and
they are amazed at the incompetence. Also, I like what you said about the "other" America. It's so true. Well done.

5. bush won't give two shits about this, BUT... if you call your CONGRESS-
PERSON... that's another story.

It's TIME.

It's LONG PAST TIME.

But if what we saw of our federal government last week is ANY indication, WE CANNOT AFFORD THREE MORE YEARS OF THIS INCOMPETENCE AND CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE!!!!!!!!!

I don't CARE if they're afraid they don't have the votes.

I don't CARE if they're hesitant because they're in the minority and it supposedly wouldn't go anywhere.

IT NEEDS TO BE DONE ANYWAY!!!!!!!!!! Just ANYWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DAMMIT, DEMS, TAKE A STAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And whatever they do, they should NOT allow bush to lead an investigation into what happened. 'Cause we all know what kind of whitewash THAT'S gonna be.

This NEEDS to be SAID, guys, and it NEEDS to be DONE. ANYWAY.

BTW - just so you know, several of the local congresspeople I called indicated I was not alone in this by any means. At Diane Watson's office, they said they'd add my name to a long list that they have on this now. Waxman's office said this wasn't the first such request they'd heard today, either.

JUST DO IT.

7. My letter to Cornyn (R) Texas after watching him on C-SPAN
Today, Sept. 6th, I just watched you on C-SPAN give a litany of charity and good will from the American people here in Texas. That's all well and good; I am glad to see it. However, in your spiel I got the impression that you missed the point. The problem is not with the "Good Will" of the American people. The problem is with BAD GOVERNMENT! You said, "now is not the time for the blame game" Oh, you are so wrong. Now is exactly the time to "point fingers" and point them at the Federal Government, that is to say, Bush and his administration. The colossal failure of the Federal Government to respond to the needs of these Americans, the poor, the sick, the young and the elderly...is inexcusable! This failure, this "man-made" disaster of a response to the natural disaster made things exponentially worse and people died! Thousands of people died! This is America. The Bush administration and Bush himself have bragged and boasted of their being the only ones who can "keep us safe here at home." Four years after 9-11 this is how they perform? To a disaster that came with a warning for God's sake. I am glad to see that finally, there is some progress but it came too little too late! Bush's incompetence and his government which dismantled FEMA and under funded the levee projects, not to mention fired the man who predicted the levee portion of the disaster...NO MR. Cornyn, you are wrong! This failure has disgraced America. It is unacceptable! It is the last straw.

9. GOOOOOOOOOOD one...
"The Bush administration and Bush himself have bragged and boasted of their being the only ones who can "keep us safe here at home." Four years after 9-11 this is how they perform?"

That's the 64-MILLION-dollar question. And it MUST be asked. And it can't be spun away. And it can't be excused away. And it can't be ignored or swept under the rug. It can't be deflected off onto somebody else. Sorry. Not playing anymore. Doesn't work anymore. No longer applies. And neither do you, cornyn. Tell it to St. Peter when you finally arrive at his threshold, whenever that may be.
