The 2008 Democratic National Convention
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 04:26 PM by Mr_King
Before Hurricane Katrina I read that New Orleans was on the short list of places to hold the 2008 DNC. I just wonder if this is still possible? Would the Democratic National Commitee pick New Orleans as a way to show they believe the city can be rebuilt in 3 years? Or will they have to decide New Orleans wouldn't be ready and go with another city on this list?

Personally before the hurricane I wanted the 2008 DNC at either Ford Field in Detroit or the Superdome in New Orleans.

1. if the city is functional in 2008, I think dems should meet there
of course I also felt their convention in '04 was more appropriate if held somewhere in Florida--but they picked Boston because Sen. Kennedy wanted it there.

13. It's also Kerry's home too which was appropriate

since he was the nominee and all that. And it's the birth place of democracy and they stole it from us in 2000 and we were all hoping we'd take it back. *sigh*

3. Too late, the RNC is already targeting NO for 2008...
just to show that they care about the city SO MUCH!

14. Didn't they learn from NYC, where their delegates needed escorts
to keep the jeering riff raff away from them? :sarcasm:

4. Now The Dems Will Have To Fight It Out With the Repugs.....
to hold their convention in NO. You can bet your boots - if Rove knows that NO will be ready - the Repugs will want that venue for their photo ops/talking points.

The good thing about this - is that the thought of either convention being held in NO will give alot of incentive to get it rebuilt by 2008.

5. There's no law against both parties meeting in the same city
Miami hosted both conventions in 1972

Manhattan was about 80% Kerry

8. Yeah
St. Louis (the Edward Jones Dome) is a good choice. But personally I'd still like to see it at Ford Field in Detroit (I'm biased though).

If it can be done I still think New Orleans would be a good choice for the Democrats even if the Republicans hold it there too. The good part about that is we'd get to hold or convention first.

9. Let the Republicans meet there
Jesus, these people are dumb. They are hated in NO right now. There'll be a riot if true.

11. American Library Association is still planning to convene in June there.
I'd love to see the Democrats there in 2008.

12. I don't think any convention should be there
That would be seen as being politicizing which is just rude. I wouldn't want either party holding it there.
