Anyone Heard of Telecommunications Jamming in NO? Link?
Wayne Madsen Reports has been covering a mysterious jamming of telecommunications in NO for days.

Interviews with rescue workers have included statements that none of the phones work- land or cell, and one local official reported that FEMA officials cut his emergency telephone lines- which he ordered reconnected and placed under armed guard protection.

And why would some telecommunications between Army personnel work, and same not work between other local law enforcement and rescuers?

Anyone know of further reports? Links?

1. Here's what I've got

FEMA crippling communications???

I was skeptical about the jamming of radio frequencies...

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,16475033%255E2703,00.html

Inside Sheriff Lee, of Jefferson parish in New Orleans, is sitting at a table, fuming.

He is doing his best to alleviate the biggest catastrophe he will ever witness, but lacks even the most basic of resources.

He cannot communicate with his own officers -- his officers can barely communicate with each other -- because the overloaded radio frequency keeps jamming.

Since Bushzarro world is all about customizing reality for political reasons, chances are pretty good we will never know what happened in the wake of Katrina. "We can now report that the jamming of New Orleans' communications is emanating from a pirate radio station in the Caribbean," explains Madsen. "The noise is continuous and it is jamming frequencies, including emergency high frequency (HF) radios, in the New Orleans area. The radio frequency jammers were heard last night, stopped for a while, and are active again today.... However, we now have a new unconfirmed report that the culprit may be the Pentagon itself. The emitter is an IF (Intermediate Frequency) jammer that is operating south southwest of New Orleans on board a U.S. Navy ship, according to an anonymous source. The jamming is cross-spectrum and interfering with superheterodyne receiver components, including the emergency radios being used in New Orleans relief efforts.... A Vancouver, British Columbia Urban Search & Rescue Team deployed to New Orleans reported that their satellite phones were not working and they had to obtain other satellite phones to keep in touch with their headquarters and other emergency agencies in British Columbia." There are also rumors spreading on forums and blogs that troops are confiscating and destroying civilian cameras. Graphic photos are however surfacing on the internet, once again trumping the corporate media, handmaiden to Bushian crimes and cover-ups.

The Coast Guard said, "Come get the fuel right away." When we got there with our trucks, they got a word. "FEMA says don't give you the fuel." Yesterday--yesterday--FEMA comes in and cuts all of our emergency communication lines. They cut them without notice. Our sheriff, Harry Lee, goes back in, he reconnects the line. He posts armed guards on our line and says, "No one is getting near these lines." Sheriff Harry Lee said that if America--American government would have responded like Wal-Mart has responded, we wouldn't be in this crisis.

Also, I seem to recall that Broussard said something about FEMA cutting phone lines; here's what at least used to be a link to a video; not sure if he mentions it in this: http://www.boingboing.net/2005/09/04/broussard_we_have_be.html

2. Just an awesome compilation -- sound suspicious to anyone else?
What are the odds that all of these communication devices would fail when they were designed to work off the local grid? Satellite phones?

What would be the motive to report FEMA cutting telephone lines?
A Sheriff reporting the cutting and restoring of the lines, I supposed he would be a believeable witness in any courtroom, right?

3. HF radio working normally -- any problems...
...caused by volume of traffic and generaly crappy HF propagation.

Ham radio in and out of the disaster area is working

If a local radio nework 'jammed' due to sheer volume of traffic, as seems likely in the story above, that is not the same thing as it being jammed by malicious interference.

It is a very poor choice of words to refer to the former as if it were the latter.

As for landline and satellite telephone, who knows?

4. Ham Radio Was Not Working, Right?
Did anyone else hear CNN report that ham radio operators were reporting that they were unable to communicate with NO ham radio operators, and that this was strange since they had always been able to do so in the aftermath of other disasters?

6. No mention of any problems...
...except those caused by bad HF propagation, and sporadic interference early on two emergency network frequencies in the 20 meter band caused probably by other hams.

Various emergency networks, especially SATERN on 14.265 MHz, running from 1400 UTC till the band closes daily.

I imagine there aren't too many VHF repeaters left up and running in the worst hit areas, but HF is working.

I googled, and found supposed links, but ALL were no good. I guess the servers must all be under water!

Ijust returned from the US Coast Guard Naval Air station in New Orleans

I was supporting the Coast Guard with in coming Ham Radio traffic for specific Search and Rescue requests

I can not tell you how helpful everyone was both on and off of the air
The only comm problem I had was band conditions and high noise from close by emergency generators and Flight-line activities

Ham Radio did make a difference in lifes saved !
