I Need to physically SEE and HEAR and ALL Democrats smack down Bush lies.
I don't need to read about it on DU, I don't need to read about it on a low-traffic official website. I don't need to read it in solicitations for campaign money.

I want VIDEO and AUDIO of top, famous, "star" Democrats with media access, ON TV, refuting all these lies- and using the word "lie."

I need to see Democrats, ON TV, calling Bush spin on this "lies."

I need to see Democrats, ON TV, demanding investigations NOW, and demanding that they be "under oath"

I need to see Democrats ON TV, saying "This blame game talking point is more lying- Bush and that traitor Karl Rove do not want to answer the tough questions- Bush may take month long vacations, but his is not a game to us or the families who demand answers. Why do you media people still repeat Rove's talking points, after all the times he has lied to you?"

EVERYONE is watching TV this week- the time is ripe.

Can we stop with the excuses? People at work are repeating all this "school bus" and "local control" BS already- and why should they not? They have yet to see a DEM go ON TV set it straight. If I try to bring up previous Bush lies to bolster my case, they have never heard DEMs talking about those lies on TV either. (DSM is a prime example)

Why are DEMS with media access once again giving that TRAITOR Karl Rove time to formulate spin & counter hoaxes? Did they not learn fromthe last HUNDRED times?

Who here at DU would not stand up, cheer and open their check books if DEMs did this?

Who thinks this would actually turn off swing voters or whatever their excuse has been?

I call & write the DEMs all the time- do they really need to hear from ME to understand these plain, common sense tactics?

I dont know why waste my time- when can the "star" Democrats go ON TV and respond to lies & accusations against them like NORMAL PEOPLE????

1. look at this milquetoast response to a letter I sent "Democratic"Senators
I haven't formulated my reply yet, but it is going to rhetorically ask "why was it I voted for you"?

Thank you . . .

..for contacting me about the destruction caused by Hurricane
Katrina in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. I share your sense of
urgency and agree that we must address this crisis immediately.

FEMA, working with state and local governments, is moving
swiftly to bring relief to Hurricane Katrina's victims. I am pleased
that the Michigan National Guard has sent the 1776th MP
Company, the 1434th Water Purification Detachment, and the 46th
MP Company to the region to assist with relief and security efforts.

The Senate has already convened in a special session and approved
$10.5 billion in immediate aid for the affected areas. As the
evacuation and rebuilding process continues, I will monitor the
situation closely and will support additional funding as it is
needed.

America is strongest when we come together to help our neighbors
in need. Visit my website (http://www.stabenow.senate.gov) to get
more information about how you can help, including links for
volunteers and donations.

I firmly believe in the strength and resilience of the American
people, and am confident that together we will help the
communities affected by Hurricane Katrina get through this crisis.
Please join me in keeping the victims of this disaster in your
thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,
Debbie Stabenow
United States Senator

Lame.

2. That DEM must agree that it is the local government's fault.
They seem to think the Federal response was great.

They did not adress the failed response- so that is the only conclusion voters can draw.

3. my letter was SPECIFICALLY about the failed response
her response came out of a can. what a disappointment. She also voted for the bankruptcy bill. I am not sure she will have my vote next year. I don't see much reason to. here is the letter that garnered her response:
Dear Senator Stabenow,
If it wasn't already obvious, it is now. Bush is a proven incompetent. What are you and other Democrats going to do to rescue this country from this failure of a President and his policies. His terrible response to the hurricane is deplorable. When are you and other Democrats going to stand up to this cabal and become an opposing party? For the sake of our country, this clown needs to be removed from office.

You tell me. Do you think her response was appropriate for the letter I sent?

Democrat my ass!

When you do you get a response it answers NONE of your questions, just a quick overview or the situation at hand. Really, does ANYONE still wonder why we lose election after election??

A concerted, unified effort to paint this jackass for what he is: a liar.

That's the word I want to hear about him and his whole administration--
They are all LIARS.

And they should graphically put out the big picture, how they are hurting everyone in America except the rich.

I don't care if they have to read Al Gore's acceptance speech from 2000 or cut and paste his Move On speeches....they are the most passionate and DIRECT I can think of at the moment, which paint the dire situation we're in.

...and they never had a problem confronting Democrats on EVERY issue.

We already know the media is controlled by the Bushie GOP. But that doesn't mean we can't use that media to get out our message if we're smart about it. As we've seen in the past...the media WILL cover what the Democratic leadership has to say...IF they have something to say.

There is something else going on here beneath the surface. The Democratic leadership is too quiet...as if they're afraid to speak out. I hope to God that's the case...because another conclusion is that they're working WITH Bush behind the scenes on a shared agenda.

I've just about had it with the 'sarcasm' from the Apologists who insist that Democrats should be silent as Bush destroys our country.

Anthrax is promised.

However, Pelosi did speak up today saying Bush is "dangerous."

Media Whores.......what are they doing?

I had to turn the Media off today except for about 20 minutes of the Big Whore Matthews...and that had me gagging so bad I couldn't deal anymore.

But "Q" has a point...how did the Repugs manage to do so much with so little.

I might differ a little with "Q" on this (although I'm with him in most else) in that the Repugs have NOW gotten their Criminal Family in line and they are going for Big GAME...these days. They've been practising it since Nixon and we've never had such a weak group of Democrats in my lifetime which stretches back to Kennedy. :shrug;

We are dealing with Criminals here. This is just "Politics as Usual" these are Criminals and our Media is in Lockstep with them, our Corporations are in Lock Step with them. They are like Hitler...if one goes back and reads about his rise and the Nazi's and his supporters who stayed with him....always with their fingers in their ears going Nyaaaa....Nyaaaaa...saying he's a Strong Leader...He's in charge.

Even his own Generals who defected and tried to kill him with a bomb couldn't succeed. We need help here...We need mega help. :-(

Dems Blast Bush Over Hurricane Response

By TOM RAUM, Associated Press WriterWed Sep 7, 7:16 PM ET

Democrats, divided over President Bush's handling of Iraq, are coming down hard on his administration's response to Hurricane Katrina.

Some of the harshest words are coming from 2008 presidential hopefuls. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York ridiculed relief coordinator Michael Brown's suggestions. Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards said the hurricane's aftermath underscores the "two Americas" theme of his presidential campaign last year.

"It's piling on time," said Rutgers University political scientist Ross Baker.

Democrats, ready with talking points and working closely, went into full battle mode Wednesday.

Clinton sought an independent commission to study the response and made the rounds of four network morning television shows, taking on Brown, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

"I would never have appointed such a person. I would imagine, I don't think that anybody would. You would appoint somebody who has experience," Clinton told CBS.

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada pressed for a broad investigation that would explore questions such as "How much time did the president spend dealing with this emerging crisis while he was on vacation?"

His House counterpart, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif., renewed her call for Brown's dismissal. "There were two disasters last week: first, the natural disaster, and second, the man-made disaster, the disaster made by mistakes made by FEMA," she said.

She told reporters she had urged Bush in person at the White House on Tuesday to fire Brown.

"Why would I do that?" Pelosi quoted the president as saying.

White House counselor Dan Bartlett challenged Pelosi's account as "inaccurate and unfortunate."

As a party, Democrats had spoken with different voices on Iraq. Some Democrats — including Clinton, Edwards and 2004 presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts — had voted to support the Iraq war resolution in October 2002.

Many Democrats were careful in their criticism of Bush's handling of Iraq so as not to appear to undermine U.S. troops or encourage the insurgency.

Democrats also were reluctant to criticize the president as the nation rallied behind him after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

53. I'm with you. Not only am I tired of these "anthrax" excuses, but
I'm tired of the excuses that run prevalent on this board like how "it's all MSM's fault", when the truth of the matter is just like how you presented it in your OP.

Until our so-called Democratic leaders step up and use the L word...call Bush a LIAR in public like Cindy Sheehan did....MSM has no reason to cover their sorry asses. I've done similar threads, only to have naysayers come on and say it's all MSM's fault.

Howard Dean just in the last day pointed the finger of blame and said that people in the hurricane stricken areas were unfairly being shunned because of race or class. Well, Howard spoke up, and MSM is all over it. It was at the top of CNN's headline news. Kudos to Howard for speaking up and news of his speech is proof that MSM will cover it if someone speaks up. Trouble is, no one but Howard and a few others have the guts to. And no one has called Bush a liar yet. I don't blame MSM at all. Give them something to talk about and they will.

Nominated!

...and why you're defending the idea of Democrats hiding while Bush rapes and plunders.

This is NOT the way a Democracy is supposed to work.

Perhaps you haven't noticed...but the US now has an 'imperial' presidency with a rubber stamp congress and corrupt judicial system. The Democratic party has become irrelevant and Democrats are ridiculed and scorned by both sides whenever they attempt to point out these facts.

It's understandable why the Right wants to keep things this way...but why would Democrats want a one-party state...especially if it doesn't include them?

This is why Bush so desperately wants John Roberts to head HIS court. Roberts believes in an imperial presidency. http://www.consortiumnews.com/2005/090605.html

I'm so FUCKING SICK of getting EMAIL after EMAIL from our "LEADERS", preaching to the fucking choir - waxing indignant but carefully parsing their words.

If it isn't on TV, it DIDN'T HAPPEN. A Senator with something forceful and interesting to say WILL GET AIR TIME.

But we don't have any of them. So far, Hillary (knock me over with a feather) is the only one of them to get out in front of the bullshit lies and spin. If she keeps it up, I might change my mind about her.

But the rest of them are merely reinforcing the view of them I've developed over the last 2-3 years - they are simply pathetic, not capable of fighting the Rovian machine, not interested in doing jack shit but sending me another bullshit email asking me for money.

YOU'LL GET MY FUCKING MONEY WHEN YOU DO YOUR FUCKING JOB. The pukes are laying on the mat and you are counting to 1,000. Sometimes, I just don't get it, I really don't.

44. Hillary is the "Presidential nominee" and Obama is the "rising star"
I'm sorry, but I don't see any other non leader (read: not Reid, Pelosi, or Dean) or non-Louisianan getting exposure any time soon unless they say or do something outrageous.

45. They are playing Pelosi's "outrageous" quote on TV too.
So if they need to make "outrageous" (Truthful & blunt) statements to get on TV, then that is fine by me.

I think all of Bushs lies are "outrageous" and if we need to say "outrageous" rebuttals to those lies, then fine.

Who is banning Dean or John Kerry from TV shows- dont they have an interest in setting Bush's lies straight?

If it takes the "star" Democrats who do indeed have media access to tell the truth about Bush, then that is fine.

You would be standing on your chair & cheering if DEMs were on TV saying things similar to waht I posted- so dont hand me these excuses.

46. No, they don't have an interest in setting Bush's lies straight.

You think General Electric, which owns NBC, MSNBC, and military industrial complex subsidiaries, doesn't have a vested interest in protecting Republicans?

You think Rupert Murdoch cares about the truth? Disney, which gets tax breaks from Jeb Bush, you think they care?

I'm not arguing your points, I'm arguing that there ARE MANY Democrats doing exactly what you're talking about. They're just not getting any coverage and they're not going to. They put on Hillary and Obama pretty much because they have to. And yeah, they should be stronger in their rhetoric, but they've both decided that playing nice will help them win a Presidential election somewhere down the road, which not coincidentally is why networks DO pump them up in the first place.

You make it seem like none of our party's elected officials are saying anything, but they are. No one is getting to see it though.

47. Kerry & Dean do not have an interest in debunking Bush lies?
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 12:12 PM by Dr Fate
Because that is what I asked.

Who is banning Dean & Kerry from TV interview & debate shows? Will Wolf Blitzer be holding a gun to them when they go on saying "If you dare refute a Bush lie- or use that word- its CURTAINS!!!"

Dispite the excuse/conspiracies on DU-we have established that Obama and Hill are indeed "allowed" on TV shows- so now I'd like to see Dean & Kerry.

48. They both do. They both have. And they're not "banned", just not invited
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 12:15 PM by Vash the Stampede
They are not getting press. Period.

I don't know what makes you think these guys have an open invitation to go on any news show they want at any time.

50. I've never heard them say they have been refused when they asked.
I've heard the exact opposite- that US Senators do indeed have the contact info for shows and do indeed call the booking people to get slots on those shows.

I've seen Dean on those TV shows about 10 times just in the past few months- so I know he is "allowed on."

If Kerry & Dean are really being refused airtime - then they need to speak up and point this out instead of leaving us guessing.

I've never heard David Brock talk about "star" DEMs being banned from shows either.

52. Exactly. Dr. Fate has been excoriating our Dem leaders
for some time now, as if any of them could get MSM airtime anytime and anywhere they have something they want to say.

Now he claims Hillary and Obama as proof of his thesis.

I say they prove just the opposite.

56. Agree with you, Land
Wes Clark blasted Bush Tuesday at that terrorism conference, as he has been all week in the blogosphere. C-SPAN was supposed to carry it. Cut coverage a half hour before Clark was scheduled to speak.

Steve Clemons, the guy hosting the conference, says that it's on tape and will be aired later... maybe this weekend? But I haven't seen it pop up on the schedule yet, and if it does, well... let's just see if Clark's barn-burner gets included, shall we?

The MSM (and remember, C-SPAN is owned by them) puts Clinton and Obama on because they know they'll tow the line. They had Pelosi on CNN just a little bit ago, but I'm thinking because they expect to be able to portray her as extremist and irrational--that was certainly the talking point for what she said yesterday--and they will try to make her fight against the current proposal for a Repub dominated investigation look obstructionist.

39. Important! New Orleans and the Demise of the Democrats
The Black Commentator Speaks For Me:

"The entire country is facing the plight of the people of New Orleans, coping with the dangers of Republican hell and Democratic high water. One party is proud of its viciousness while the other claims not to be vicious but proudly proclaims its willingness to shoot desperate refugees.

The degree of Democratic callousness in the New Orleans tragedy may be shocking at first, but it is actually consistent with the direction the party has taken for the past two decades. The Democrats are dying a slow political death. Their inaction and acquiescence in New Orleans is just the latest symptom presented by a terminal patient."

54. The comments about Landreau are unfair though. She wanted to Punch Bush
out and told of the NO's Police who swam through the dirty waters with handcuffs to rescue the inmates so they wouldn't have to be let loose in NO's and she said this while tears were streaming down her face in her helicopter ride over NO with a CNN reporter. She exposed the lies.

I don't know about Blanco...but Bill Clinton sure deserves some criticism as both Black Commentator and Ariana Huffington have pointed out. Our Dems are good at legislation when theirs an outcry and they have power, but now they can't legislate because they don't have power.
Otherwise many of them were the same as the Repugs. They didn't cancel their vacations and probably don't have a clue what it is to be without water or food in an unbearable hot and humid part of the country, with water rising and people dying and fear and terror and uncertainty. They couldn't know that because their lives are as isolated as the Repugs.
They see human suffering in the abstract but are able to empathize. The Repugs have no regard for anything but their own comfort and idealogy.
That's what I've concluded. The rest of us out here in the country are just the "Masses" who are nameless and faceless.
