Sign the Kerry Letter - no new tax cuts
There's a letter on the Kerry site to demand that the repukes DON'T pass more tax cuts for the rich.

http://www.johnkerry.com/petition/taxcuts.php

I signed it and added the comment below:

========================================

I'm a white guy who's in line for one of these inheritances.

I'd be OVERJOYED of some of my less fortunate brothers and sisters also benefited from this money; money that I neither earned nor need.

I’m sickened that you would still be hell-bent on shoving more money into the trough of the rich while people are DYING of federal neglect in the South.

Shame on you!

4. i dunno
my dad has a lot of money, and he wants me to have it when he passes, i guess i have the option of just giving it to the government should i so desire, but thats not what he wants.

This should not be a difficult issue for us, the overwhelming majority do not get large inheritances. So long as the many can control the money of a few, it will be alright.

6. In a test vote on this, the Dems put up an amendment
that would have exempted the first $100 million dollars of inheritance money and the Rethugs turned it down. $00 million dollars exempt. Not good enough for the greedy rich and their sycophants in Congress.

17. Shows their true colours
Yet with payroll taxes, the first dollar of a person working at McDonalds is taxed. The estate tax was a preferential tax in the first place.

22. "Personal responsibility" my ass.
How much "personal responsibility" does someone need when they inherit millions? (or even a small business or farm that they could turn around and sell if they had to)

He'd have repealed the old ones if he'd have gotten in.

Here's the text if anyone wants to see.

"President Bush, Majority Leader Frist and Speaker Hastert,

It is totally unbelievable to me that, at this time of pain and suffering for so many people in our nation, Republican leaders have yet to forego their plans to lavish more tax cuts on the wealthy and well-connected.

Such tax cuts at this time would be a total betrayal of American values – and a slap in the face of people in the Gulf Coast who have lost and suffered through so much and have so far to go on the road to recovery.

I demand that the leaders of the Republican Party act immediately to take the idea of tax cuts for the wealthy off the table. And I won’t stop working until you do.

Our message to those who would even contemplate bestowing more tax cuts on the wealthy at this time is clear and unambiguous: Don’t you dare!

Signed, "

I added "Stop Corporate Welfare!"

I am an upper-middle to upper class white female who benefits from these tax cuts..... but at what cost?

The loss of New Orleans was FAR too high a price to pay. I demand that I, and others in my tax bracket are required to pay their FAIR SHARE.

This country has allowed our buisness to flourish - I should be grateful, and pay MY FAIR SHARE.

19. Done! Here's my comment attached to the letter...
It's unconscionable to even consider any more tax cuts for the wealthy, at this time. Our national debt is soaring into the 8 TRILLION DOLLAR neighborhood, and we're hemorraging funds to an unnecessary and tragic war on Iraq. Now we have the victims of Federal indifference and negligence to care for, and a region the size of England to rebuild. We need MORE Tax dollars from the wealthy, not less.

Anyone who proposes tax cuts on the wealthy now should be ASHAMED to claim they are Representing or Leading this country.

SHAME!
