Cautious Outrage ...... or Outrageous Caution?
Sparkly and I were eating supper and discussing what she'd heard earlier today on Ed Shultz' radio show .......

There was mention of people in the shelters having to 'register'. And whatever Shultz was speaking specifically, he was sounding a bit miffed at the evacuees having to register. And I see why. To me, the symbolism inherent in a citizen 'registering' after being relocated is abhorrent ...... but ......

On reflection, we need to realize that some of what we're seeing and hearing is actually benign and indeed helpful.

And I suspect all of us know that.

So why are our minds turned to the sinister when faced with the benign?

Could it be the long nightmare of living under the reign of King George, the Great Divider?

We're watchin' you, George ..... you narcissistic, heartless, uncaring, detached motherfucker.

1. I work a special needs shelter during hurricanes and tropical
storms. We check everyone in and issue wristbands, we always know the census and it is reported to other locations frequently. Of course this is a small shelter, only for folks who need oxygen or electricity to live. What has become clear from Katrina is that we probably need to add insulin-dependent diabetics to the special needs category.

We were on generator power for a few hours during one of the storms last year and conditions went downhill fast. The Superdome must have been hell on earth.

2. They probably need to register so families & others can be reunited, but
I sure know what you mean about suspicions of the intentions of Bush and Co. Hardly unrealistic at this point to be suspicious, given their track record.
