Has anyone at DU ever written the White House and criticized anything? |
|
I haven't. I wrote his father and Clinton when they were president. And BTW, his father never sent any reply, I guess because I disgreed with his Gulf war.
The truth is, I think they are dangerous people and it would be useless.
I would very much like to know your stories and if you ever got any meaningful replys.

8. I wrote last year when Abu Ghraib happened. |
|
I said that I used to be supportive of Bush's efforts in the Middle East but was now extremely disappointed by our actions in that part of the world. I specifically pointed out my disappointment in his failure to either apologize for Abu Ghraib or take any responsibility as a leader for it. (I was still pretty moderate/libertarian at that time - it was the beginning of my "progressive" conversion).
I got a meaningless form letter back thanking me for my comments. No black suits ever came to my house. If they have been tapping my phone ever since I'm sure that the FBI guy assigned to listen to my conversations has long since died of boredom.
Personally, I doubt that anyone ever even bothered to read it at all. It probably went straight in the round file. Unless you threaten the president or something, your opinion is meaningless to them.

36. No, I was registered Libertarian. |
|
I still am a registered Libertarian, but voted Democrat almost across the board last November because I realized how evil these people were. There was a time in this country when you could vote your 3rd party conscience because it didn't really matter much in the end, but that time has passed. I felt like I needed to take a stand against Bush and the only place to reasonably stand was with John Kerry.
I don't always agree with the Democrats, but I agree with them 100% on the biggest issue on the board right now: Bush and all of his cronies in Congress need to go.
After that is accomplished, I may go back to voting Libertarian or maybe not. The chances that I stay a Democrat increase every time a Democratic leader stands up and calls BS on this administration or takes a stand for something important.

39. I think we would all be better off if we would |

find 3rd party candidates for congress.
We desparately need some balance in congress. Let's face it, both parties suck and are corrupted by money.
They are sooo entrenched in getting re-elected, they don't do a good job for the people.
I'm 53, and am soooo tired of voting for lousy democratic candidates, just to beat pubs.
Right now I am trying hard to get rid of Diane Frankenstein. I lit a big fire in the California forum. People like to play it safe and stay with the same old
At my age, I have realized that playing it safe with candidates is why the congress is so messed up. I don't understand why democrats can't put up other candidates against lousy democrats. At the very least, it will lite a fire under their butts to maybe do the work of the people. Thanks for you reply.

13. I wrote Laura Bush before the Iraq Invasion and asked her how she |
|
planned to take care of the innocent Iraq Women and Children who would be killed in the Bombing of Baghdad.
I never heard an answer. But, since they don't even answer Conress or Senators who write them...if they are Democrats...then I guess I shouldn't have expected an answer...except that I'm a citizen of the US and she didn't know whether I was a Dem or Repug. Maybe she's old school and I should have sent her a formal letter on monogramed stationary...but I went to the White House.Gov. site and there was a link to send e-mails to the First Lady, so I took advantage of it. I was very polite and explained to her how I felt about the fact that so many innocents would be killed and could she ask the President to do something to prevent this.
She didn't even think I was worth a form reply. I don't get any responses from my Senator Liddy Dole when I fax her, either. I guess her staff looks up my name to see if it appears on the Repug list before she bothers.
This is really unacceptable that they can't even reply with a form letter. Maybe others have had better response than myself. Maybe she got so many e-mails her system crashed and lost it. Or, maybe she doesn't "DO" e-mails.

I emailed regarding something I can't recall a couple years ago.
And this past Saturday I called the White House switchboard and talked with someone on the comment line (they actually have such a thing). I broke down sobbing and asked that the representative inform the president that he is a shameful excuse for an American, let alone a human being. She was forced to listen and then thank me for my comment.

24. I have done it several times.... |

since Bush was put in office.
It started with a congratulatory card to President Al Gore sent to the White House after the 2000 election. If I remember correctly, there were several folks at DU who did that. :)
Since then I have called, faxed, written -- you name it. I fired off a doozy of a fax to the White House when it became clear the whole situation in NO was a FEMA clusterfuck.
My Mom said that I probably have a secret service file stuffed with goodies.
I told her I would be ashamed of myself if I didn't have one! :D

It was the only year I ever had my taxes audited. Everything was fine, but what a hassle!
As I said on another thread, that could have been a coincidence, but I don't think it was.
So, no more letters with my name and return address on them, just e-mails and phone calls if I ever think they give a flying fig about what any of us ever think again. I know they can still track me down, but at least they'll have to work at it! LOL!

46. Here'sone I sent: Bush's colossal failure to respond immediately |
|
to Americans in distress. Republicans are talking about "criticism" of the president as if criticism were the actual problem. They are missing the point. The problem is that the President not only failed to act like a President but he failed to act like a human. Where was his sense of urgency? His action? His concern? His compassion? His angst? I saw none of that! I saw smiling, laughing, joking about drinking too much, patting people on the back for "doing a heck of a job." Then, Bush has the absence of mind to ask Pelosi "what didn't go right?" Pelosi is RIGHT. Bush is DANGEROUS. I am afraid for my country right now. The colossal failure of the Federal Government (and I know that the failure was at that level because I have educated myself about the actions local and state officials took) to immediately respond to these American citizens in distress is INEXCUSABLE! I am not "playing the blame game" this is NOT A GAME. It is serious. In my opinion, criminal. Bush's inaction caused Americans to die from lack of water and medical care. Others suffered needlessly from the chaos that ensued while Bush did nothing. It's deplorable! Bush has the blood of hundreds, maybe even thousands of Americans on his hands and on the hands of anyone who stands with him.

47. And another - GOP Party loyalty even unto death, not their own |
|
deaths mind you but the deaths of innocent others. Now there is only “party loyalty” that’s when you are loyal to your party even unto death, not your death, but the death of others. Now it doesn’t matter if you are right or wrong as long as you get the “talking points” from your party and you repeat them ad nauseum. A great example of this right now is Senator Cornyn, from Texas, he along with many others, keep saying this phrase "don't play the blame game." Which is really kind of heartless given the consequences of the Federal Government's failure to respond to Hurricane Katrina and seeing as how it's the fault of his party that the levee broke. Yeah, he keeps saying that like we are playing some game. THIS IS NOT A GAME! I say, it's not a blame game it's accountability for this immense failure that is obvious to everyone but Bush and his people.
