Have I completely lost my mind? |
|
Two Repubs I (sometimes) discuss politics have looked at the Blanco declaration of August 26 and the Bush declaration of August 27 and both have told me it makes not one bit of difference.
One said, "What did you expect? Were they supposed have all that food and water rounded up and delivered the next day?"
I asked what about the 5th day? The 6th? At one point IS the federal government responsible.
Another said, "That crap (the timing of the declarations) means nothing because the local government fed those poor people to the wolves..." She then went into a diatribe about how we're supposed to support our government.
What is going on here?

2. No you haven't lost your mind |

Those two are no better then those that looked the other way when people disappeared in the night, never to return.
Maybe the next time you should tell them that the Germans felt that it was right to support their government too, and then just turn around and walk away.
Who knows, they might figure out what you just said before you're out of sight, but I doubt it.

3. People are better at mimicking than reasoning |
|
Reason means nothing in the 1 + 1 = 3 world's of some people. Don't mean to offend anyone, but this comes from emotional attachments made with religious training and Santa Claus/Easter Bunny stuff.

Never go off the script. The president can never be wrong. He is god.
It never matters how many people die on his watch he is flawless. It takes faith. Lots of it.

5. You might point out to them that... |
|
3 days worth of food and water was provided at the SuperDome. However, more people kept showing up after Katrina hit. The Convention Center was overflow for the Superdome. For example, people evacuated from hotels were sent to the Convention Center - which is why there wasn't food and water - they were supposed to shelter in the hotels.
The problem isn't that they didn't have 3 days provision - it's that the response was so LONG that all provisions ran out, and they didn't have any extras for all the additional people who showed up after Katrina hit.
Also, the National Guard was part of the evacuation plan and was SUPPOSED to help with evacuation - but we all know where they and THEIR EQUIPMENT are!

7. Its not about the Government, its about the demographic of the victims |
|
Its not about Bush, etc.. its about the fact that this target demographic that got hit (poor black people) are absolutely DETESTED by freepers everywhere.
Many are happy this happened to those people.

8. I suggest not engaging those two people in discussion |
|
As it is evidently clear from their comments that sanity (for them at least) has left the building...
