Who were the 11 fucks that voted against hurricane relief?
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 04:20 PM by Sean Reynolds
And yes I know it's wrong to use FUCKS in the main subject, but that's the "nicest" thing I could call them.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050908/pl_nm/congress_dc

The House voted 410-11 and the Senate also was expected to approve the measure on Thursday, sending it to Bush for enactment.

Who are the 11 idiots that decided not to help in hurricane relief?

1. Hold off going off. Have you seen the bill? Is there any give aways to
the rich in it? I think we should reserve jumping on them before we can at least see what their reasons were. Then we will hang em.

13. Welcome to DU.
:hi: What an outrage. Well you know, the bill probably didi have enough pork in it.

This coming from a Governor who received millions for single pork riddled bridge in Alaska.
http://www.breitbart.com/news/na/D8CFK5701.html

Gov. Murkowski: $2K is a lot of money - especially for a handout, Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski, a Republican, said he had concerns about the potential for abuse.

"That's a lot of money. The question is how do you separate the needy from those who just want a $2,000 handout," he said.

The cards will be issued on a one-per-household basis, said Natalie Rule, a FEMA spokeswoman in Washington. As a safeguard against fraud, FEMA will use aerial photographs of devastated areas to verify that the refugees were, indeed, forced from their homes in cases where they cannot provide documents to prove their losses or identities.

"We've got a huge population of people that have been evacuated with very little by way of possessions and we have to have a way to make sure these people can function," Rule said. "If there are those who are out there to cheat the system, that is going to be very disappointing. But the main goal is to get the aid out."

Rule said the agency was setting up registration centers in shelters in Houston and Dallas where evacuees could obtain the cards.

http://newhavenadvocate.com/gbase/Lifestyle/content?oid=oid:124917

Congressman Don Young (R-Alaska) is one of the House's most proficient feeders at the public trough. He thinks the highway bill is not quite generous enough. As Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby wrote, "One wonders what more Young could have wanted. The bill funnels upward of $941 million to 119 earmarked projects in Alaska, including $223 million for a mile-long bridge linking an island with 50 residents to the town of Ketchikan on the mainland. Another $231 million is earmarked for a new bridge in Anchorage, to be named -- this is specified in the legislation -- Don Young's Way ... ."

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/08/opinion/08thu1.html?hp

Surely Representative Don Young, the Alaska Republican who is chairman of the transportation committee, might put off that $223 million "bridge to nowhere" in his state's outback. It's redundant now - Louisiana suddenly has several bridges to nowhere. Likewise, Speaker Dennis Hastert could defer his prized Prairie Parkway, a $200-million-plus project dismissed as a behemoth Sprawlway by hometown critics, and use the money to repair the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.

16. Murkowski? Abuse? Abuse? What exactly is abuse? They have nothing.
I'm sure the rich didn't "abuse" their handouts in the name of tax cuts. It ain't even funny how they think of people not as well off as them.

a product of club for growth. He will not spend federal money on anything. Earlier in the year when the Delaware River flooded he failed to get any FEMA money for the residents of NJ. He is to extreme for the great blue-state of NJ. Its time to dump Garrett.

38. Yes they opened a bank account and receive interest on it every year.
If you call interest on your money free I guess it is. They established a Permanent Fund thirty years ago when they first struck oil there. The oil belonged to the people of Alaska so they took the revenues earned on the sales and leases of the oil and created a huge bank account and divide the interest among the peoiple every year. Really stupid idea huh. Alaskans take care of their people. How un-American.....

32. Sensenbrenner opponent speaks out
I am Bryan Kennedy and I am challenging Congressman Sensenbrenner for the 2nd time in '06. Today, he was one of the 11 members of Congress to vote against aid to the victims of the Gulf Coast tragedy. Here is my response, and REMEMBER, A HURRICANE DID NOT DO THIS, FAILURE TO PREPARE FOR A HURRICANE DID THIS. Katrina is Bush's tax cut plan at work.

Kennedy Stunned by Sensenbrenner¹s Vote AGAINST gulf coast survivors

Democratic Congressional candidate Bryan Kennedy questioned the reasoning for Congressman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr.¹s vote against the victims and survivors of the Gulf Coast tragedy. (Roll Call Vote #460) Congressman Sensenbrenner was one of only 11 members of Congress to oppose aid to the victims of the disaster. ³I don¹t know what he was thinking,² Kennedy said. ³An American city the size of Milwaukee is in ruins, its residents are scattered all over the country in temporary shelters, and Sensenbrenner doesn¹t believe that they should receive assistance. I don¹t think that Sensenbrenner is heartless, so I really can¹t understand why he would vote against helping his fellow Americans through one of the greatest natural disasters in our nation¹s history,² said Kennedy.

H.R. 3673 provides supplemental appropriations to meet immediate needs arising from the consequences of Hurricane Katrina. The $50 billion aid package would provide $2,000 to families who had been displaced and would help pay for the cleanup efforts. Kennedy commented, ³Considering the economic standing of most of the Gulf Coast victims, this is the least the government could do to assist them. The good people of Wisconsin mourn for those who suffer and our heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones. The aid the President requested is the kind of assistance we expect from government in a time of crisis. Sensenbrenner owes the people of Wisconsin an answer and the people of the United States an apology. He needs to show the country that the citizens of Wisconsin care about what happens to our fellow Americans.²

Shouldn't we (or, even better, our party) be keeping score and pounding them all with this come campaign time? It's a nice simple attack theme...and I don't think we need to sweat the details (porkwise) here, just paint them as cruel heartless bastards.. That's what an energized organized Democratic party could/would do. Or am I dreaming? Sure would be nice to pick up those 11 seats.
