I, for one, will be sorry to see Lieberman go
maybe he won't drop out, but the writing's on the wall, he's won't be placing in NH, or anywhere else. He's finished. And when he leaves, we all will breathe a sigh of relief that his ill-fated campaign is finally done. However, Lieberman brought something special to DU. He was the unofficial punching bag. Whenever we didn't feel like bashing Bush, he was the one. I remember the old insane rants about how much Lieberman was disliked, and laughed my ass off. I loved raving about how I hated his nanny state morality. I loved the hyperbolic attacks on him.

So yes, even he had a role for DU. He brought unity, and with him there'll just be more sniping between the main candidates. While the field needs to clear, no longer having him asorb the attacks will be missed.

So thanks Joe. As much as I dislike you and your politics, you did us all a service.

1. Even though I'm from CT
I never agreed with any of Joe's policies but he has done a lot in the senate over the years. I still dislike hearing people in CT say they're voting for Joejust because he's from CT. That doesn't make much sense to me.

14. I'm in CT too
We've got to come up with someone else to run against him for the Democratic spot in 2006. Actually, Larson's my congressional representative and I think he'd be great (voted agaist the resolution by the way), but because of the local loyalty thing, he's backing Joe too. I'm interested in seeing who he'll support if Joe drops out in the next week and there's no one clear cut as the frontrunner.

8. So far,
let me emphasize: so far, this has not been nearly as negative as I would have predicted. Of course, there's still time.

I completely agree with you and I question there was anything resembling "sorrow".

5. I think its a discredit to just think of Joe as a punching bag.
While he may not be the favored son in this race, he's still a good man. He may not be the most liberal guy, but he is a democrat.

Big Tent remember?

10. When all is said and done
Senator Lieberman will still be serving his country, as he has for decades, and Howard Dean will be looking for speaking engagements and book deals to explain how his losing was somebody else's fault and how angry he is about it.

Joseph Lieberman is a Moderate Liberal Populist.

That is more the way I would rather say goodbye than with the vitriol exhibited on DU. His career is over and he has been much too conservative, but he has also done some good things.

11. I still don't like him
He IS really very liberal on many issues, and he has been a good Democrat ( except on his cheering of Iraq)....BUT I just can't stand him. I just don't like him. It's his voice and his demeanor and also he is a sure loser. I say get rid of the sure losers.

24. Too bad he didn't show any backbone...
when he let the Republicans flush democracy down the toilet in Florida... I'll never forgive him for that, and for the subsequent Bush ass-kissing. He's a sanctimonious and, frankly, somewhat creepy guy.

...he'll be a fine Democratic Senator for as long as he likes.

And he'll continue to be mocked and abused here for being a fine Democratic Senator who holds a few differing opinions.

22. Good post. At the match-your-candidate sites
most of us would match JL much more closely than we would Bush, and he is closer to the Dem pack than many believe. There is a big difference between him and * on voting records/positions. It's just that I disagree with him more than with other Democrats and given a choice I will go with the others.

But I thank Lieberman for running.

...supported by a lot of good Democrats. Including Vice President Gore.

Personally, I don't like running-off ANY voting Democrats (Yeah, I'm just a wishy-washy pragmatist who just wants to WIN!)...I wish we wouldn't do it so much here.
