Didn't the Entire Collective Media Declare Howard Dean Finished Last Week?
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 06:58 PM by David Zephyr
Is it just me, or did I actually hear every pundit that could breathe pontificating that Howard Dean was washed up, that he'd be lucky to finish third or fourth in the New Hampshire Primary?

That he was "toast", "dead", "finished"?

Nah, no one ever said that, did they?

Was it just my imagination?

3. A sad commentary
that so many people flip flop votes depending on what the media tells them. Fortunately Dean has a lot of intelligent voters who see through them when the going gets rough.

11. I saw right through it.
I could kill certain people here who played into it. It motivated me to send in my second donation to the Dean camp.

5. They're trying!!
"...a spate of missteps led to a third-place finish in Iowa, where a shrill election-night speech UNDERSCORED (my emphasis) concerns about his temperament and judgment.". This sentence appeared in an AP article by Ron Fournier, it featured on front page of Yahoo today. The title of the story? Kerry Looks for Second Win In New Hampshire. Brilliant reporting. How about.. Edwards Looks for Second Second-Place in Hamphsire? The media is clueless, not entirely evil. The insinuations continue, and the lazy reporting continues. But Dean became more focused after the media debacle.. for that we should be grateful.

6. They did it to Kerry for months. Dried up his fundraising. People laughed
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 07:30 PM by blm
that he wasn't able to raise much money. The media did what their GOP masters wanted. Kerry overcame their efforts.

9. Just learned about that the other day.
Because Kerry was a major supporter of a Bill to overturn the FCC ruling that allowed media conglomeration, the media took a big shat on him.

Smear by omission. Much like Kucinich. Kucinich has problems because he wants to take on the Military Industrial Congressional Complex head to head. I respect that.

But the man needs a better hair piece.

13. They more than made it up to John
By what they have done to Dean in the last few weeks. Without the whores Kerry would be getting out of the race by now. Now we are stuck with war and war. Funny that seems to fit the media's agenda?

They dried up his campaign coffers. He pulled through in SPITE of the media. So did Edwards.

10. Heard the "toast", "dead", "finished"
Who said he'd be lucky to finish third or fourth in the New Hampshire Primary?

I never heard that...heard that he could drop lower than second if he didn't stop the bleeding... but then he did.

15. I think this is a very enlightening read.
http://www.moderateindependent.com/v2i2elections2004gop.htm

the right-wing’s election strategy. The basic idea is to push Kerry and Edwards early on, then turn on them. The goal is to bury Clark – who they are worried is the best candidate to beat President Bush – and ensure that Dean wins – the person they consider easiest to beat.

Here is an excerpt from the December 5 entry on the right-wing site polipundit:

"The rationale is simple:
1. We still want Dean to be the nominee so that President Bush can crush him and have long coattails.
2. The biggest threat to a Dean nomination is no longer Dick Gephardt, John Kerry or John Edwards. It's Weasel Clark, for all the reasons outlined below.
3. To help Dean, we have to bring down Clark's vote totals in the crucial states of New Hampshire and South Carolina.
4. In New Hampshire, donating to neighbouring-son John Kerry will help ensure that Clark won't surpass expectations by finishing ahead of Kerry.
5. In South Carolina, Clark can be stopped by neighbouring-son John Edwards.

In addition to reporting this a month and a half ago, we reported last week in this article
(http://www.moderateindependent.com/v1i18rightwing.htm) that the right-wing was about to launch an all out smear assault against General Clark.

If they wanted to kill off Dean for good they would have run a lot more than the Iowa speech.

That night I wrote an email to Colin Quinn and told him what a moron he was. Last night he wasn't quite as cocky.
