Rescuers collect dead, Cheney sounds upbeat

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050910/ts_nm/katrina_wrap_dc

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - Emergency workers collected the dead of New Orleans on Saturday and the official death toll rose slowly, boosting hopes Hurricane Katrina would claim far fewer lives than the many thousands once feared.

Vice President Dick Cheney visited an emergency management center in Austin, Texas, and said the government was finally gaining control of the situation.

"I think we are in fact on our way to getting on top of the whole Katrina exercise. We've got a lot of work ahead of us," he said.

"KATRINA EXERCISE?"

:grr:

Well, it makes you go "WHAT?" and read it twice...
...to make sure that's what they really said.

What a sick, sick old man.

5. I agree. They were making a statement with that headline: Cheney is upbeat
over the dead. Why else would it have taken until Thursday night for Bush to sign off so Northern Command could send help?

6. I look forward to the day they stop talking in code...
We could really use a few more reporters like Shepherd Smith, a few people to go out in the field and LOSE IT and punch right past the "Karl Rove Talking Points" wall.

It's a start.

7. When I saw bush
in N.O. on the news last week, he didn't look any more shaken, saddened, or outraged than he would have if he had been talking about being rained on during one of his jogs. He still had that "shit eaten" grin plastered on his face. It's not the "religious right"---it's the "evil right".

9. Here is another: "Cheney: No complaints from evacuees he met Saturday"
Did he think the "Go fuck yourself, Mr Cheney" was a compliment?

"Cheney: No complaints from evacuees he met Saturday

AUSTIN, Texas (CNN) -- Vice President Dick Cheney said Katrina evacuees he visited at the Austin convention center Saturday were "uniformly positive," and no one complained about the federal response to the disaster.

Cheney also met with with Texas emergency officials.

"Texas has had an enormous success story," Cheney said. The state has taken in more evacuees than all other states combined, he said. "They are all very thankful for where they find themselves now."

Cheney refused to discuss any involvement in the removal of FEMA chief Michael Brown from the relief effort. "It was not my call to make," Cheney said. (Posted 3:55 p.m.)"

11. The one he met was Trent Lott, and he's getting "a fantastic new porch"
out of the deal. No complaints, there.

17. Exercize huh?
Maybe there's something to the HAARP conspiracy theories after all?

Wasn't the destruction of a Southern seaport city one of the recent "terraist drills"??
