Don't give up Democratic seats: Support civil liberties groups instead!
There has been a lot of disappointment here about the voting records of some Democrats. I myself have been very critical of Democrats who have taken right-wing stances. However, I would still rather have a Democrat in office who has disappointed me than a conservative Republican in his or her place! If we want more progressive Democrats, we need to vote for them in primary elections.

I think that supporting civil liberties groups like the ACLU, People For the American Way, Americans United, and Southern Poverty Law Center is a much better strategy. These groups take important issues to the Courts, where they have a much better chance at being decided the Constitutional way, rather than being decided by a politician's fear of losing right-wing votes.

3. Definitely! No on 77!
I live in California and I'll be voting no on 77! I have signed up to do some phone banking for the Alliance For A Better California as well.

2. The courts they are a changing (and not for the better.)
I think your first suggestion is the more promising. We need to elect progressive candidates (and that should include Greens, etc. if a progressive Dem cannot be found.)

Of course, the RW neo-cons foresaw a potential backlash and that's why they privatized the voting systems and have been in the process of stacking the courts.
