In your opinion what is the MOST important 2006 race?
Mine, the Ohio Governor's race, especially if Blackwell is the GOP nominee. It's bad enough that Blackwell is Secretary of State and has brought Diebold to Ohio. I fear that if this man is elected Governor, fraud and disenfranchisement will become a permanent institution in Ohio. Governors are powerful people and if Blackwell has that kind of power, he will be able to pull the strings to make it happen.

Also, we need to set the stage for 2008, in which Ohio will once again be a key battleground state. Winning the Governor's mansion in Ohio, as well as a Senate seat, will give the state party new leaders and a great momentum that will help put us over the top in Ohio in 2008.

Well that's my 2 cents, what does everyone else think that the most important race is?

1. AZ Gov & others
probably just because it effects me more then others across the country. it was astonishing that Napolitano and Goddard got into office in the first place, if we can re-elect them and succeed in other races we'll finally be on our way to turning the land of Goldwater onto the right course.

Good to have you with us!

You know what to do, dontcha?

"Hard work" of the REAL and most worthwhile kind -

IMPEACHMENT!!! NOW!!!!!!!

AND to take back the House in 2006. That would actually enable IMPEACHMENT, realistically.

4. Rick Santorum in PA/ Romney and Patakis seats
Dems need to take full advantage and run a bona fide progreessive against this extremist whacko.

Down Side; I'll miss Rick's soundbites. They make for great cannon fodder to throw at the right.

up side? A sign that Blue states are in "take back" mode

It looks like Democrats will win back two key governorships in their own states as well. Pataki is not running for re election and Republicans have no one to run in that seat.

Romney is running and he should probably just pack up and go home. His political carreer ends in 06.

5. there are several--but PA and VT are, I think the most important
Santorum must be defeated period. And the election of Bernie Sanders in Vermont could genuinely alter the range of debate.

6. Santorum's defeat
Would be a major blow to movement conservativism. Best news to come out of this whole mess is that Dean has an eye on that seat. If he runs someone that wins it, it will be a sure sign that Dean can get thing done.

7. Florida governor

if we can get a non-DINO out of the primary. You know, someone who signs a blanket pardon for all disenfranchised ex-felons on his/her first day in office, then tells all the Republicans off and pours him/herself a cup of champagne. Then gets to work on clearing corruption and Republican officeholders (redundant, I know) out of the state on the second day...and every f-ing day after that with unrelenting energy until Florida is liberated of those shits dragging it (and the rest of the country) down.

11. I think it would send a real message
if we could win back either or both the gov and senate races Ohio.

But Santorum has to go. He's likely the vilest of the bunch.

13. The Maryland Senate Race
Word is that Lt Gov Michael Steele is Rove's guy and there is strong rumor that his campaign is being coordinated with the bushistas.

I see this race as a test of Rove's reach. Steele is another of his 'perfect' candidates. A political motherfucker who looks like a 'regular guy'. Think 'Texas Governor in Black'.

14. Santorum is really all I care about
I don't think we can take back the House and Senate but getting rid of the number 3 Republican, a presidential candidate, and the most obnoxiously religious politician in the country in one fell swoop would be glorious.

15. The governor's race in OR is pretty important to me.
I think ultimately it will be my beloved Kulongoski in a walk, but there are some nasty Republicans out there who could probably make a good showing. Then again, I'm really going to enjoy watching him beat their slimy, homophobic anti-choice asses. It will just be essential that he does it effectively, because Dems in OR and the rest of the country need him to hang in there as the smart, media-saavy protector of our fair, but troubled Blue state.

16. Tossup between PA and RI Senate races
These are both great chances for pickups. Santorum is scum, and Chafee is a spineless enabler. They both need to go. Next would be holding MD.

17. I think there
Has to be a distinction between important races and races that could be pickup opportunities. I think the Ohio Gov. and SOS races are extremely important and solid pickup opportunities. On the other the RI senate race is a solid pickup opportunity but I don't think in the grand scheme of things its as important as some of these other races. This is kind of strange coming from me since I'm probably going up to RI to work on this race, but while Chaffee is spineless he's not nearly as bad as people like Santorum

21. Dumping Arnold. Also, dumping Feinstein in the primary.
California can do better. Liberals do much better here hand moderates. The Democrats don't vote when moderates are involved and the moderates lose.
