McClellan explains Bush really meant his "breeches are not Levi's."
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 04:11 AM by wakemewhenitsover
Is that "explanation" any more lame than this, as quoted in the Washington Post...

"WHAT THE PRESIDENT MEANT TO SAY"

At another contentious briefing on Friday, McClellan addressed Bush's infamous declaration on a live television interview Thursday that "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees."

"What the President was referring to is that you had Hurricane Katrina hit, and then it passed New Orleans. And if you'll remember, all the media reports, or a number of media reports at that time, that Monday -- even all the way to the Tuesday papers, were talking to people and saying that New Orleans had dodged a bullet. So I think that's what the President is referring to, is that people weren't anticipating those levees, after the hurricane had passed New Orleans, breaching. Many people weren't. And you can go back and look at the news coverage at that time."

poor old guy rarely knew what he was talking about.

And if he shuffled his cue cards he was completely lost (once he dropped his cue cards).

I always figured that poppy bush had a 12 term.

13. 12-year term
It's been suggested that Reagan had alzheimers early in his Presidency, so by defualt, it probably means that Bush Sr. was Reagan's puppetier in the way that Cheney is now to his son, ironically.

4. Bush was a babbling incoherent loon yesterday.
The audio transcript is on NPR here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4843134

I wrote it down as best I could, but you really have to listen to understand just how deranged this guy is.

Bush: I know that there's been a lot of second guessing. I can assure I'm not interested in that. What I'm interested in is solving problems and there will be times when we need to take a step back and take a sober look at what went right and what didn't go right. Uh, there's a lot of information floating around that will be analyzed in an objective way, and uh that's important, its important for the people of this country to understand that all of us want to learn a lesson. And if there were to be a, uh, biologicial attack of some kind we got to make sure we understand the lessons learned to be able to deal with catastrophe.

Asked about his comment that nobody could anticipate that the levees could be breached.

Bush: What I was referring to was this. When that storm came by a lot of people said we dodged a bullet. When that storm came through at first people said "whew" and there's a sense of relaxation and thats what I was referring to and I myself thought we had dodged a bullet. You know why? 'cause I was listening to people, uh probably over the airwaves, say 'the bullet has been dodged' and that is what I was referring to. Of course there were plans in case the levee had been breached. There was a sense of relaxation at the moment, at a critical moment, and uh, thank you for giving me a chance to clarify that.

Asked to pinpoint the moment when he realized how severe the storm was.

Bush: I knew a big storm was coming, uh, on Monday. That's why I spoke to the country on Monday morning about it I said 'there's a big storm coming'. I had pre-signed an emergency declarations in anticipation of a big storm coming. Which by the way is extraordinary. Most emergencies the president signs after the storm has hit. Its a rare occaision for the president to anticipate the severity of the storm and sign the documentation prior to the storm. See we anticipated a serious storm. But as the man's question said and basically implied you know wasn't there a moment where everyone said 'well gosh we dodged a bullet' and yet the bullet hadn't been dodged.

The reporter at this point notes that scotty 'clarified' the presidents remarks later that afternoon by replacing Monday with Sunday.

17. wasn't that an apalling choice of words?
"information floating around". I think he is totally deranged. I think that he needs to be removed under the 25th amendment by reason of mental incapacity.

Once again, Prince Doofus tries hard to remember everything his nannies 'splained to him 'bout presidentin' and simply can't get his story straight. Which by the way isn't in the least extraordinary.

18. Good Lord. Thank you for "translating", WS.
(that must have been tough). Yes, this is incoherent babble. I had to read the transcript twice, to really get the frenzied meaning of what he's trying to say. There are a lot of Freudian slips in his rambling.

They're the words coming from a man who is desperate. Like New Orleans, he is sinking. Sinking in credibility, sinking in the polls.

You can really tell from the rhetoric, that Bush was dealt the death knell with this scandal.

I really don't believe he can recover from this. He'll try, though.

16. Not a single American newspaper had a "Dodged the Bullet" headline.
This is such bullshit. Only one right wing website and a newspaper from Grenada said that. This is the new talking point.

20. Anybody watching news coverage as "the big storm" approached
heard the analysts say that the real test of the levee system would be after the hurricane passed the city. I remember them specifically saying that ... (though I was flipping around, so not sure which channel or if all of them were!)
