1. Ummm...hasn't the Govt given 60+ billion dollars so far?
And aren't corporate America and individuals giving millions (and probably billions by now)?

7. "With no immediate source of tax revenue
due to residents and businessmen being scattered around the country, Nagin, a former executive with Cox Communications before being elected mayor in 2002, said his financial advisers are working feverishly to secure public and private lines of credit."

And why can't they get a bailout from the government, like the airlines did after 9/11? There shouldn't be another drop of construction work done until this mater is resolved.

8. Or like New York City even before 9/11?
There's precedent even without a disaster.

9. Hate to break it, but we're borrowing money for both Iraq and Katrina
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 01:33 PM by Selatius
We've got a 600 billion dollar government deficit. We have no surplus. It's all being borrowed...with interest. If we keep this up, foreign investors will question whether they should continue to hold reserves of US dollars when they see the government that represents us cannot even pay the fucking tab. They will only loan us so much as a noose to hang ourselves.

10. We're borrowing money...
to pay the employees of the IRS who collect the few taxes left to pay off just some of the debt.

To say nothing of that huge porkway bill they just passed-- a lot of which could be shifted to the Gulf to help with rebuilding if they had the guts. All it takes is a quick vote.

The "fiscal conservatives" have managed to bankrupt the country.

12. Not surprising. Most large American cities are close to broke...
because of the pugs sloughing off federal duties onto the states.
