Not another rubber stamper

I am one of those Republicans supporting Jim Gilchrist over any GOP candidate to replace former Congressman Chris Cox. My reasons go far beyond the illegal immigration issue. The Republican Congress has been a rubber stamp for President Bush and the party leadership. Now the federal government is bigger and more expensive than ever. Any GOP nominee will be beholden to the party leadership and thus vulnerable to the arm-twisting that passed the Central American Free Trade Agreement and the Medicare drug plan.

Free of a Republican Party leadership that has lost its way, Jim Gilchrist will do what's right. Fears of electing a Democrat are overblown as it is doubtful a Democrat could do much harm in the year remaining before he would have to face the voters again.
