Public opinion on paying for Katrina "exact opposite of what Bush wants"
Just now on MSNBC, so no URL.

Bob Kurr, reporting from Washington, sowed that public opinion favors REDUCTION in Iraq spending, REPEAL of Bush tax cuts, LEAVING the estate tax alone, and REDUCING government spending (in that order) as the choices favored most by the public.

Kurr concluded by saying "This will most likely prove to be the exact opposite of what Bush wants."

Supposedly Bush is in the "Family Theatre" of the White House right now, rehearsing his little speech for tonight. He'll be speaking in the French Quarter of N.O., with a Cathedral as his backdrop. Guess they couldn't find a troop carrier with a big banner.

1. He doesn't give a damn
what people want. Except for the chosen few, of course. I'm spending the evening at a Democrats Abroad meeting, so happily will miss the speech. I'll read a transcript, which I find a bit easier on the stomach than watching him.

3. Exactly right -- the "who cares what you think" administration
Halliburton needs another fat government contract, Unca Dick gots to get paid, Paris Hilton can't possibly afford to pay any taxes on her inheritance that she worked so hard to be born into, and everything's going swimmingly in Iraq, where freedom is marchin' like a New Orleans funeral parade.

2. I heard on MSNBC that he was going to address
inequality and poverty which contributed to the problems in NO. This will surely send his base over the edge.

4. I heard that too, and I have my doubts...
I think it will be less of "inequality and poverty" and more bravado about "building a bigger and better New Orleans," just like we're re-building a "bigger and better Iraq."

We shall see.
