Now right demanding Dem memos (on groups opposing Roberts)
Is this childish, or what?

Conservative strategists are drafting a letter to Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee demanding the release of hundreds of internal memos detailing contacts between the lawmakers and liberal interest groups opposing John Roberts’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

By planning to press Democrats on the sensitive subject, conservatives seem to be pulling a page from the Democrats’ own political playbook. In the weeks leading up to the confirmation hearings, Senate Democrats have repeatedly called on the White House to give them memos Roberts penned while he was deputy solicitor general in President George H.W. Bush’s administration.

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), the ranking member on the Judiciary Committee, raised the issue again yesterday by releasing a letter dated Sept. 9 from William Moschella, the assistant attorney general. In the letter, Moschella declined to disclose legal memos from Roberts’s tenure in the Office of the Solicitor General.

“It is regrettable that the Bush administration persists in keeping this information from the Senate,” Leahy said. “These documents, from the period of Judge Roberts’s most substantive work experience in the executive branch, would help illuminate his views and earlier decisions on a wide range of key issues that are of vital importance to the American people and to the Senate.”

1. I don't know quite what to say except that apparently there isn't a
republican who's mental and emotional development progressed beyond the third grade.

3. When the whitehouse hands over what the Dems requested.
When the whitehouse gives the Dems what they've been asking for, then and only then should the Dems consider giving these out....And if they do decide to give them out, then they should play every delaying tactic in the book...just like the repubs.

4. How are Roberts-penned docs equivalent to letters from "interest groups?"
More dumbass smear tactics and false equivalencies from the office of Rove and Mehlman.

8. Exactly. More PR stunts, based on false comparisons. Typical
PR aimed at the less intelligent voters.

6. OR WHAT? they're going to not pass the nomination?
tell them to go Cheney themselves

In fact, Cheney and Scalia have given us all kinds of precedent here with the Energy commission hearings to not release that kind of information since doing so could adversely impact future contributors to these kinds of efforts.

Rip a page from their playbook and wipe their asses with it.

9. Why? Those memos wouldn't actually have anything Roberts has written
But the White House memos would. Roberts, at the time, was working for the people of the US, not the White House, as are all government employees. They should be shown to all the American people.
