1. I'm sure that Marie Antoinette was in charge of the farm at Versailles too |
|
Don't worry too much about it. He won't last. At least Brownie was a horse trader. Rove's a horse thief, and with Plame the heat's on him. This may be a diversionary tactic or a desperate attempt to paint him in a more complimentary light, as if that were possible. It's the usual lipstick on the pig stuff, and New Orleans is no Miss Piggy! NO deserves, and will get, much better.

5. actually, it's a pretty stupid move, IMHO |
|
He should have picked someone qualified and not so obviously known to be his crony. This will not play well in Peoria.

11. I agree. It's a desperate, futile attempt to redeem Rove but won't work |
|
For the same reason Brownie didn't work: loyalty doesn't trump competence when a vast project such as rebuilding a city is involved.
We're not talking about garbage-collection contracts here. Even Tony Soprano would be better qualified than Rove. At least the mafia is in construction.
Uh-oh. I'd better watch what I say. Well, Halliburton already snagged one contract, and the line between legitimate ripoffs and organized-crime ripoffs is pretty blurry nowadays, especially when Halliburton has armed mercenaries working in one of its subsidiaries. I guess it's the WASP mafia.

Using hundreds of billions of tax payer dollars, on loan from Japanese and Chinese creditors, Karl Rove will be in charge of rebuilding George Bush's credibility New Orleans.

7. By all accounts, Rove is a vicious autocrat, which means... |
|
the reconstruction effort will be run accordingly, complete with deliberate malice toward blacks, fixed-income elderly, disabled people, the poor in general. With Grover Norquist, Rove is also the author of the administration's intentional effort to maximize the savagery inflicted by poverty -- this to make poverty and fear of poverty a flail with which to beat people into ever-more-frenzied competition in an ever-more-impossible rat-race. While the aristocracy of New Orleans will prosper obscenely, the people there will suffer as they have never suffered before.

What could possibly be worse?
Nothing.
What Robert Moses did to The Bronx and New York, Rove will do to Louisiana.

a political crony is largely responsible for FEMA's incompetence, and yet another patronage appointment is supposed to help people in NOLA?
