Two Kerry Bills Pass Senate for Katrina Relief!
Senate Passes Kerry Legislation to Provide Tax Relief, Help Guard and Reserve Troops Hurt By Katrina

September 15th, 2005
A successful day for Senator Kerry in the Senate today, with more news of Kerry legislation passing today. See my previous post on John Kerry’s Relief Package for Small Businesses Devastated By Hurricane Katrina passing in the Senate today, as well.

WASHINGTON - Today the Senate passed legislation proposed by Senator John Kerry (D - Mass.) that will provide financial support to National Guard and Reservists through immediate tax relief to their employers affected by Hurricane Katrina.

The provision is a modified version of a key part of Kerry’s Military Family Bill of Rights and was included in the tax package that passed the Senate today. It provides a tax credit to employers in the Gulf Coast impacted by Katrina who pay reservists that are called to duty in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Gulf Coast or elsewhere.

John Kerry’s Relief Package for Small Businesses Devastated By Hurricane Katrina Passes Senate
September 15th, 2005
The Kerry Plan is First Hurricane-Relief Focused on Gulf Coast Small Business. A key provision will provide Nationwide Disaster Loans to cope with High Gas Prices.

WASHINGTON — With estimates of more than 400,000 jobs lost and 200,000 small business hurt by Hurricane Katrina, the Senate today passed a package of emergency economic aid and federal assistance for small businesses and others reeling from the destruction in the Gulf Coast.

The bipartisan amendment was offered today by Sens. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), Mary L. Landrieu (D-La.), Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine), and David Vitter (R-La). It was authored by Kerry, who authored a similar assistance package for small businesses recovering in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Kerry is the Ranking Member of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee.

1. Does Kerry also approve
of the Dems inability to question Roberts about his Iran Contra connections?

How does he feel about the defense proposal "some" House Dems have put forward?

to your questions...

And, after verification, it was actually done, by Diane Feinstein, and his answer was "I dont remember". I cant tell you more because I was not watching.

4. Isn't that discussed on YOUR thread? Kerry is on the SB committee and he
dealt with Katrina in this capacity and put together a package that GOPs couldn't say no to without looking like total scum.

He played it smart and got it passed.

If Kerry was on the Judiciary Committee, I'm sure he would have gone for Roberts' jugular.

Did you hear him nail Rice on Pakistan and nuclear proliferation as found back in his BCCI investigation?

Now, I'm sure the press would LOVE it if Kerry tried to usurp the Judiciary Dems, but, I would wager that Kerry didn't know all the lines of questioning of Roberts.

6. What do we look like, the Great Wazoo?
If I had to guess, I'd say the answer was probably a resounding no. But until we have a press release or something, we dunno. Same as you.

Or were these rhetorical questions?

7. LOL! The Great Wazoo, indeed!
Ha ha ha! Must have been rhetorical because they're certainly not on the subject.

2. Good bills, but also a perfect example of how the Senate is disfunctional
The only reason the Small Business aid package was unanimously voted was because it was renamed Snowe Amendment.

Same thing happened to a Bingaman amendment who was renamed Grassley amendment.

I am not criticizing Bingaman and Kerry for that. They did what was necessary to give the aids to the victims of Katrina, but it is very symptomatic of the way the Senate is working.
