If you missed the View today with Dean, here is nice write-up.
Renee did another of her great transcriptions. He did a nice job, he smiled a lot...good in that format. Quite good over all...now if they will just hush that Bush lady up. He handled her quite well.

A couple of good parts:

On the response to Katrina:

"Howard: "Well, it is a tragedy. A lot of the reason it's a tragedy is that the federal government didn't know what it was doing, and that's a huge problem. I think the truth is, folks are still hurting, and instead of arguing about why the federal government didn't get their act together, we need to fix it. That's what needs to happen.

The government in this country is in big trouble, but the public is fantastic. There are enormous numbers of Americans in both parties working their rear ends off to make sure these people get properly clothed and properly fed and get some housing
,and that's what we need to focus on right now."

Barbara asked if the Democrats could have done it better, and Howard responded that James Lee Witt, FEMA director under Clinton, was the best. He mentions how FEMA came through when he was governor of Vermont, during some of the 7 or 8 states of emergency Vermont experienced during his tenure."

Meredith interjected that none of those disasters were anything like this, and Howard responded "Yes, but if you're on the ball, you're on the ball, and you're *there*. People are always upset when they're losing their homes and their jobs and their lives, obviously--the question is, what are you doing about it? You do not wait four days."

Joy asked what about the responsibility of the local government, and Howard answered, "There's certainly enough blame to go around. And I hate to say this, but that really was a Rove inspired thing to go attack the local people.

I love the part at the end where he said that what made Judy happy made him happy. It was in response to their questioning of her not campaigning with him. It was very sweet. Then Joy said to him "whatever makes you happy makes us happy. We love you to bits." It was kind of sweet, too.

the time" NOW IS THE TIME damnit, four YEARS AGO was the time, I'm thankful for Dean, he speaks truth, but THAT was a bit to close to the Rovian "blame-game" line for me.....-=lin

shit because c'mon, man, ever heard of MULTI-TASKING?

Conyers is a *master* multi-tasker.

WHY the rest don't follow his example...why why why why

8. We need to fix FEMA now before the next disaster.
I agree 100% on that, and I will bet a lot of people on the Gulf Coast, in NC, and in Miami (where FEMA refused to pay individuals for loss of their homes).....a lot of them would agree.

Fix what is broken and then start blaming.

Actually most everyone knows whose fault it is anyway. There is not too much need to say it. The remaining ones who refuse to attach blame to Bush will go to their graves thinking God made him president.

5. Thanks, madfloridian!
I've been out of the country for nine days and came back through that beautiful state of Vermont and thought of Dean..wondering what he's had to say, lately.

It was also divinely surreal to read newspapers in Canada that have real news.. and they don't think much of our head hypocritical propoganda catapulter.

6. Well, neither do a lot of folks here now.
I think New Orleans will most likely go down in history as Bush's Waterloo or Watergate or both.

I don't think he will recover from this.

Welcome back to the good old USA, Zidzi.

10. Thank you, madflor!
It's been cathartic telling Canadians what I think of our government while enjoyng their beautiful Provinces but it's good to be home again after camping out.

Also, cathartic to come back and catch up on what the Activists at DU are going on about!

9. More will come out on that bus issue.
She was reading right wing talking points, and he did a pretty good job of countering them.

I had a post today in GD forum about where Rush and all the others got the 2000 figure for the buses. It is wrong. They pulled it out of their butts.

That bus situation may in the end come out to bite some locals in the butt, so to speak. The people there locally know, and it will all come out in the long run.
