Where? Don't people already own the land? How exactly is that supposed
to work? Can people show up and squat on Lott's lot?

Or was that just an alcohol produced strange thought? :wow:

Spent the night listening to REM did ya?
Yes W said that he would try (really really wants to) impelement a Homestead Act type thing for Louisiana. He said they would look into what Fed land is available in the area and that it could be given to people so long as they build a home on it (mortgage debt etc).

Of course this also means that there will be lots of rezoning ;-) as well

And I feel fine

3. Yep, and.....
I have a feeling it will end up being reservation style areas while the prime area goes to the oil magnates and other rich folk.

4. He's going to use federally owned land
Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 09:36 AM by Solly Mack
like where state run facilities once existed, where public housing once existed , and other government buildings..

and it's just been proposed for HUD to give loans and help to families in higher income brackets...( it's in the Congressional bill regarding HUD funding)

Bush also wants Habitat for Humanity to build some (not all) of the homes- so people can stop renting and start owning.(but I didn't "hear" that part without thinking "and the catch is")

13. He also called disaster relief
disaster release before backtracking. It was in the middle of his half-baked mea culpa, while he was explaining Katrina wasn't a "normal" hurricane.

5. err...homesteading is a tax exemption...like in DC usually
if you reside in the house you get a break in your property taxes, as opposed to renting it out. In DC it's called the homesteading exemption.

Didn't Rove claim that FIVE times on his last tax filing for five
different houses ... and can't you only claim that for one house ... the one you spend the most time in?

Five houses? Anyone remember this, it was recently revealed.

19. yes louisiana is already a homestead state
don't know if there are many others but in louisiana you don't pay property tax on modest homes assessed at under $75,000

so he isn't giving us anything there we don't already got

9. Homesteading? Is that after they take the land by eminent domain?
Then they can parcel it out to whomever they please? Boy this one smacks of patronage. Doesn't someone already own the land that most of the people live on? What will they give out, swamp? Gee, thanks george!

10. Just more
Smoke and mirrors in order to funnel more money to "his base". I don't know why people even bother to analyze what he says. There's nothing there for the poor even in the region much less the rest of the nation which he never bothered to mention once. It would be interesting to find out just how much federal land there is Louisiana and other Gulf states that were affected. Maybe he means Death Valley he never said where the Federal lands would be located.
