7. I just saw in on MSNBC the head of Center for Lost and
Missing children has that many kids who are lost.

The numbers may be off a little cause I memorized it to post...but it was just on live.

12. Is it possible that the 16k+ is the total # of missing/lost children...
in the US not just from Katrina?

Here is what I've found on MSNBC so far about Katrina's "lost" kids, from an article HERE today:
“We have 500 children that are in the state’s custody that are in foster care that I can not tell you ‘Tommy is in Lake Charles in this location,”’ she said.

Gautreau said as of midday Thursday, there were 1,988 reports of children missing with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children but those numbers can be inflated, since anyone can report a child missing, even if the child is with a proper custodial parent.

13. right...still not buying this number
I'm not sure there even is a "Center for Lost and Missing Children". There is a "National Center for Missing and Exploited Children". They are involved in helping to find kids missing due to Katrina. But if they were touting the kind of numbers you quoted, it would be somewhere on their website...and I certainly can't find it.

onenote

10. The right wing cabal caused this and are responsible. Now,
all you blow hard supremecists - tell us again exactly how the United States of Corporations is superior to every other country on this planet.

If every decision a person makes is not for all the children, tell me what else is more important.

I don't want to live with people who teach children to hate and be bigots and don't care if we lose over 16 thousand of our children.

Did the marioneette mention children last night.

14. I agree with stubertmcfly,
This is a highly, highly improbable number. Let's say half these lost children have two parents, that is close to 30,000 parents who don't know where there kids are.

The notion that this would not be screaming headlines if it were true is absurd. Like em or not, the nation's media is in LA and they are all looking for stories.

Parents with missing kids would be FRANTIC.

This is bullshit.

16. I posted this moments after I saw it on MSNBC
Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 05:16 PM by bluedawg12
They were interviewing the man in charge of the Center for Missing and Exploited Children. That is the correct name of the org.

I don't have a link, but the message under this man's image on TV showed that number- over 16,000, I understood him to say that they had something over 16,000 kids that were separated or lost from family in their care.

I am hoping that someone else saw this also. I am sure they will loop the story..I hope...although it is shameful.

I am at present trying to down load a list from the CFMEC site...and getting no where.

I am sure if the number is this high-no one wants this story to keep playing with the exact numbers.

If anyone can open this file, maybe we can get an actual number:

Hurricane Katrina Children is list of children that NCMEC currently has on file as either missing or looking for their parents.

http://www.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/PageServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US&PageId=2077

Does anyone have any current links to estimates re: kids seperated from family? It seems awfully vague and hard info. to find--and strange that I am not finding much--except for that kook Michelle Maudlin who is bragging about the few reunions.
