ENVIRONMENT --

SENATOR PROPOSES THE 'MOTHER OF ALL ENVIRONMENTAL ROLLBACKS':

The Environmental Protection Agency may be able to "suspend any law governing air, water or land in responding to Hurricane Katrina," if Sen. James Inhofe's legislation passes. Inhofe, chairman of the Senate environment committee, has proposed waiving pro-environment regulations for 120 days so that the EPA can "respond in a timely and effective manner" to the Katrina disaster. The EPA has already relaxed regulations on fuel standards, allowing the use of diesel fuel. The EPA Administrator has said he does not think a blanket waiver will be necessary, but "there are still a number of unknowns and couldn’t project what he would need considering those unknowns."

4. *sigh* I saw that in the New York Times today
What a disappointment. I really hope we get a democrat in the next presidential election. Our environment is going down the tubes. I just don't understand how republicans (on the whole) do not care about it. :(

6. Environment = Health
As if these people do not have enough problems, Bow they want to in effect guarantee that they suffer from chronic illness and even earlier death.

Johnson is not to be trusted. He likely has already earmakred the rules that industry want ditched.

7. KT, my husband does environmental enforcement
When he or I explain to people the negative impact that mercury and coal-fired power plants have on us to republicans, I am stunned at how they don't care. They say, "I'm worried about terrorism, and Bush is the man for that." <rolling eyes>

10. Kudos to your husband
That is a most difficult job. For some reason people do not connect environmental laws to their own well being.

I know about that disconnect. When we tried to get a dioxin spewing paper plant to clean up in my community - it was the families and doctors who were against us. There was even a study that showed the repsiratory health of the children was comparable to a terribly polluted town in GA.
When they finally imploded their chimneys - some people even their little kids to watch and sit in the dust cloud - to show those environmentalists!!
I don't get it.

8. Why did I guess it was Inhofe
even before I read who it was.

He likely is the worst sitting senator. Hell, I'd say that OK has the worst pair of senators.

9. what a brilliant idea!
New Orleans is an ecological disaster. But if we simply change the rules, then it won't be and everything will be just peachy.

What a asshat.
