Two pithy comments on Bush's speech in NYT article

"He was giving a speech as if the nation were disheartened and worried and had lost its spirit, but that's not what people were thinking," said Mickey Edwards, a former Republican congressman from Oklahoma. "They were thinking, why did the government screw up?"

****

George W. Bush...introduced himself to the nation on Thursday night in an unfamiliar and somewhat uncomfortable new role: domestic president.

4. a great article...especially good was the part about * treating poverty as
if it was a regional concern (only happening in the South). Does he not realize that thousands (or more? I don't have precise figures) throughout the country have become poor on his watch?

6. He pulls the CEO stunt- my peeps let me down
it worked for him with the attacks in n.y.- "whaa, no one could have known..." except for is own pdb.memo.

but this time, the people are wise to this: what me doing something wrong? OK, I'll take the hit for the little people who messed up.

no one is buying it
