Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) wants to "follow dangerous teachings in mosques"
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,169589,00.html

JOHN GIBSON, HOST: The Boston Globe reported that you actually suggested wiretapping mosques. Is that what you suggested?

GOV. MITT ROMNEY, R-MASS.: No, not at all. I suggested that what we do that is essential in protecting the homeland, in addition to working on response, is to spend more of our resources on prevention. And prevention is intelligence work, counterterrorism work. And that means following what could be happening in terms of dangerous teachings in mosques, tracking student visas, for instance, because, of course, the people who planned the 9/11 (search) attack included individuals who had expired student visas. We need to do a better job doing the type of intelligence we already do, no new different types of intelligence, just more of it, and make sure that we're spending our resources to prevent attack, not just to respond after the bomb goes off.

---SNIP---

And, in some cases, I'm sure the FBI infiltrates organizations they're concerned about. If they have probable cause, they're able to do wiretapping. And those are the tools that, of course, we use in protecting the homeland. What we need to do is more of that and have more resources devoted to the FBI in their effort to do intelligence work and counterintelligence work.

We don't need different tools. We need to use the tools we have got under the Patriot Act (search) and under our current laws to assure that we really are following groups that are preaching terror, that we really are following people who come here from terror-sponsored states, where that's appropriate, where we have concerns, that we have the resources necessary to prevent the bombs from going off, rather than just the resources to clean up afterwards.

1. Oh Mitt, baby,
I can think of some christian churches that would be more appropriate to monitor. Where plans against the united states have already been hatched and promulgated. Yes indeedie.

2. How 'bout we "follow dangerous teachings" in Mormon Temples Mitt
But something tells me you wouldn't be okay with that.

I'm sure you mean for your suggestion only to apply to those who worship the "wrong god."

14. Did they build Shit his own Temple?

I don't know how big of a presence the LDS church has in Massachussettes, but it seems strange that they get a Mega Temple after electing Mr CarpetBagger as governor.

Holy Elohim! That is hugh!!

15. The LDS are minority in Mass.
The state is loaded with Catholics. I would not be surprised is a number of Catholics made the switch to LDS in the wake of sex abuse that rocked the Catholic church. You're right it is kind of strange. I guess Mitt likes to do things big!

3. How about that Pat Robertson, Mitt?
Pat was advocating assassination of democratically elected leaders of other countries from his tele-mosque. Should we go after that imam who is preaching terror?

4. If I was governor
I would send agents into fundamentalist Southern Baptist churches because it has proven itself to be a very violent religion.

5. If/when Mitt runs
For President we should just keep repeating that Jon Stewart line about Mitt's views on abortion.

6. Were any of these guys calling for harrassing churches after 4-19-95?
Tim McVeigh was a terrorist. He described himself as a "Christian". Paul Hill was an ordained minister who murdered a doctor and his bodyguard outside an abortion clinic. The "Reverend" Fred Phelps and his "congregation" commit hate crimes on a regular basis.

Where is the call to wiretap these terrorists' houses of worship?

8. I think the GOP christian megachurches are the places to start bugging
I'll bet there are more potential terrorists per square foot in any one of those than there are in mosques.

10. He is just grandstanding for the red state base - making inroads
Edited on Sat Sep-17-05 11:58 AM by geckosfeet
before the '08 starts in earnest.

He has to rinse off the "new england" stink before campaigning in all the bubba-villes around the country.

He is a duplicitous, two faced, lying sack of republican crap. They will love him in bubba-ville.

16. If, by bubba-ville, you mean the south, I don't think that he was
show all that positive. Down here, both Catholics and Mormon are viewed as non-desirable. In my youth, they said that you were either Baptist or Communist. Cannot see it has changed that much.

18. No dis-respect meant to the south. Bubba-villes are hard core red
state mentality conclaves and can of course exist anywhere. All I am saying is that he is trying to cozy up to the shrubs base. It seems he is trying to overcome the "baptist/communist" duality and similar issues by showing that he is a mormon who talks tough and can be just as racist as the next guy.

11. We should follow dangerous teachings in Christian churches
False teachings that run counter to science and that foster hatred and intolerance against women, GLBTs, immigrants, liberals, people of color, etc., should be banned and their teachers should be expelled from the country.

Let's use the rightwingers' laws against them!

If you really want to take this country back from the rightwing, you must be prepared to support draconian measures to purge them from our society. This includes purging the federal bench of all judges that belonged to The Federalist Society! It is long overdue for many of you to realize that you are in the middle of a war, a war that the rightwing intends to win at all costs. This is not the time for traditional "bleeding heart" liberalism!

There is no such thing as human rights for human right abusers. If you don't believe me, just look at what we did to Nazi war criminals at Nuremberg. All of them were convicted and punished under the color of ex-post facto laws. Would any of you shed any tears for them? I wouldn't, and neither would I shed any tears for any Bush Administration official that is convicted and punished for their crimes, even if it is done in the same way we prosecuted the Nazis.

17. The FBI and CIA doesn't suffer a lack of info. They have too much.
They have so much in fact that they do not have nearly enough people to look at it all.
