How the NeoCons murdered New Orleans

Mr. Bush said on "Good Morning America" that the United States could fend for itself. "I do expect a lot of sympathy and perhaps some will send cash dollars," the president was quoted as saying of foreign governments. "But this country's going to rise up and take care of it."

As indeed we should. Americans are courageous and they will do what must be done. But that is a different set of actions than envisioned by George W. Bush and his cohort.

Fourteen billion dollars sounded like a lot of money in 1998, too much money for the Feds to commit to Coast 2050, the plan agreed on by the governor's office, the state's Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Fish and Wildlife Service and all 20 of the state's coastal parishes for restoring coastal Louisiana.

Relief for New Orleans is costing you and me a half billion each day now; that does not count the costs of rebuilding.

New Orleans had a wake up call in the form of Hurricane Georges in September of 1998. Faced with a wall of water 17 feet in height that threatened to surge into Lake Pontchartrain and flood their city they came together.

New Orleans saw what was inevitable. So did most of literate America. In an article published in Scientific American in October of 2001 titled, Drowning New Orleans by Mark Fischetti, ( http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?articleID=00060286-CB58-1315-8B5883414B7F0000 ) the dangers were spelled out. In less than six pages it laid out what was going to happen, why it was inevitable, how New Orleans found itself a storm away from death and destruction, and what was proposed to stop it.

1. "Pay me now or pay me later."
The Myopia of America is pervasive - from NOLA to global warming, from deficit spending to Social Security profiteering. Politicians are no longer regarded as responsible for long-term improvements -- only quarterly profits.

3. The Bush Blunder or should i say the Bush PLUNDER Rape and Pillageing

The time is 5:35 PM just saw a short news story about some business folks returning to New Orleans. There was no mention of the poor folks who the last to leave. The F.O.G. ( FRIENDS OF GEORGE ) was successful in " cleaning out " all the poor and elderly on fixed incomes (1) , if and when will they be allowed to return home. BUSH has suspended Davis Bacon (2) to assure that the reconstruction wages paid in the area are going to be below average, The carpet baggers are moving in (3) to scoop up any real estate that may come on the market, at a time when most people can't get into the city. The rebuilding of New Orleans is beginning to look like the culmination of a Delay inspired redistricting (4) program that started in 2001. BUSH helped the process along with the 2001 Tax Cut(5). BUSH then initiated a " DESTROY THE WET LANDS " program (6) The goal is to produce a safe environment for SADISTIC NE-CON EVANGELICAL ACTIVIST legislators (7) and to solidify the RNC'S hold on both Houses of the Congress. Now the RNC can be assured that all of the Democrats are out of New Orleans. The question is how many Democrats will be permitted to return to the NEW New Orleans.
