Pro-troop tour stops in Elko, NV tonight -HELP! Have they been 2 yer town?
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 04:31 AM by NVMojo
Someone please tell me what these assholes are in Elko, Nevada? We are four hours away from Reno, three hours away from SLC, Utah, and 3 hours away from Boise, Idaho with not much in between. We have major gold mines here that helped bring that pissant Dick Cheney here for the election. I can understand the campaign crap but why this tour here? Are they running around trying to catch up with Cindy????

ELKO - The Move America Forward organization is stopping in Elko tonight as part of a 20-stop bus tour to show support for America's troops and counter the efforts of anti-war advocate Cindy Sheehan, who is currently nearing the end of a separate bus tour sending a message to bring America's troops home.

Move America Forward's bus tour began at 8:30 a.m. this morning in San Francisco and is scheduled to finish in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 25. According to the schedule on their Web site, the tour will include stops in Vacaville, Calif., Sacramento, Calif., and Reno before it arrives in Elko at 9:30 p.m. this evening.

The Elko stop will include a pro-troop rally and news conference in the parking lot of the Red Lion Inn & Casino, 2065 Idaho St.

"We will not sit back and let the 'Blame America First' crowd try to turn this generation into a hybrid of the Vietnam protest era," said Melanie Morgan, chair of Move America Forward, in a press release. "We will never send a message to the terrorists that we are prepared to cut and run."

Speakers at the rally will include Deborah Johns, mother of Iraq war veteran William Johns - who served two tours of duty and will soon return to Iraq for a third tour; and Joseph Williams, father of Michael Williams - a soldier that was killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Joseph Williams resides in Vacaville, Calif., the same hometown as Sheehan.

2. Trying to drum up support for their DC counter demo
I have a feeling they may not get the numbers they seek. Most people support the troops and want them HOME. They don't blame America, they blame the monkey at the helm.

Ignore them, don't call attention to them, don't counter protest them. They're pathetic, trying to link troop support with a war where the troops are the patsys. It did not work in Vietnam, either.

3. you're right, I am sure. I just found this obscene article plastered
across the front page tonight and it just pissed me off...this is a predominately Republican county so it's safe for them to come here and spew this crap, there aren't many Dems around here ...

I think I am just tired of being outnumbered by the right wing whack jobs here ....and now this ...

4. typical Republican BS
They're not "pro-troop." They're pro-war and pro-Bush. Using the term "pro-troop" implies that anti-war protestors, such as Cindy Sheehan, are somehow "anti-troop." The paper even refers to each differently: MAF is "showing support for the troops" while Cindy Sheehan's "anti-war," as if the two were mutually exclusive.

6. Move America Forward is an astroturf organization
No grass roots base, just a few PR people running the whole show out of a posh office in DC.

8. Most Americans are "Pro Troop" these people are Pro War..big difference
You can not be Pro Troop and Pro War at the same time. War kills troops. If you are Pro Troop then stop the friggin war.

9. I am so damned sick of these things being called "pro-troop" rallies
simply because it implies that the anti-war demonstrations don't give a damn about the soldiers fighting this stupid war.

11. Did anyone notice that it is scheduled to arrive in D.C. on the 25th???
One day after the real march, eh?

Just like the clown who went to Crawford and vowed to "dog" Cindy - he arrived the day after she left.

It's almost comical, it really is.
