4. I can't explain it, but the last five at the bottom of the list
are all Pubs.

Wow . . . Governor Blanco's numbers have dropped, like, 16 points?! Unbelievable.

5. In IL, Blagojevich, a Democrat is still in a lot of trouble
36% approval a year away from the election isn't good news....

16. Here's a post from MyDD.com
They have a thread regarding the gov races. This poster is from Illinois and seemed to know what he was talking about, not good news for Blago: http://www.mydd.com/story/2005/9/20/12311/3232#comment_top

(To the mods: this paste is a reader post from another blog. I didn't know if the 3-paragraph rule applied. Sorry for violating if it does)

"Are you serious? Either you are from out of state or don't read the papers. It really sounds like you do not know what you are talking about. If you do not take Illinois seriously, we could easily lose it.

Blago has a 36% approval rating.

Ryan is NOT a political issue for the GOP anymore.

Topinka and Burkett are two strong GOP candidates for Governor. Topinka was the ONLY republican to keep state office in the great purge.

Blago alienated a large portion of the party. He went to war with the Chicago machine and the heads of the house and senate are not fond of him either, albeit for different reasons.

Cronyism has been a big part of his administration since day 1, but in Illinois that is nothing new...as corrupt as we are here. But the teacher Pension scandal is big. This on top of the stuff with Mell is not good. If he is linked to it, he is a dead man and we would be best served if he didn't run.

The Illinois GOP is not as in shambles as you may think. To think that they are is foolishness. 2004 was a disaster for them, but there is a reason they picked Keyes instead of some of their front runners in 2006. No one was gonna beat Obama. He had WAY too much of the moderate vote. Ditka or Edgar were the only two possible.

The State GOP is not the best in the nation by any stretch. But they are following one of the classic rules... Let your enemy overestimate your faults and underestimate your virtues. It has been 4 years since the Purge. The GOP is not the party is was then. They are HUNGRY right now and if we ignore them like you suggest, we do so at our peril."

7. How in the hell are Romney and Ehrlich above 50%?
I live in Maryland and I'm from (and have family in) Massachusetts. I don't even know of anyone that even remotely likes either of these guys. And I'm not your militant type of DUer that only associates with liberals either. I think this is full of shit, quite honestly.

8. Tells you the story about texas
Goodhair Perry still has 49% approval. This for the most inept Governor since, well, GW Bush.

9. Doesn't Make Any Sense
I don't believe this shit. There is no way that Gov. Jennifer Granholm is 43rd, near the bottom, with a supposed 40% approval rating, and 56% against. Lies--and Republicans at the top of the list? Granholm is still popular, she does not get booed by crowds in public, etc., (unlike the drunken little rich boy, who runs away and hides), and this is a Democratic state, which she won easily last time. Who does this "poll," Gallup?

13. My take
After their recent slanted poll about Bush's popularity, I'm not sure if this can be trusted. I'm glad Rendell's popularity is up from before. He's been good in looking concerned about the pay raises here. I don't understand why Repuke governors along the Gulf Coast got surges in approval!

17. The problem is Kathleen Blanco
I really don't care about the other numbers this far out. I also don't need a poll to understand Blanco went from likely re-elect to big jeopardy. Perception becomes reality. I was in Miami and cleaning up our own problems from Katrina. All I saw were media clips regarding Blanco's performance and they were brutal to her. I hope she has superior PR skills and makes decisive popular moves in the next 14 months, because once the state is closer to normalcy you know damn well the GOP won't be gun shy in using unfortunate portrayals of her performance under duress.
