Is anyone listening to this asshole Ted Poe
Edited on Tue Sep-20-05 06:52 PM by sepia_steel
he is saying that it is 'dangerous' to get rid of the Pledge of Allegience and that it violates free speech that kids can't say it anymore in some California schools. Also he smugly let us know how it was required in Texas schools as is the Texas State Pledge (he's a Texas Republican). He could not possibly have spewed more Right-Fundie venom. WHY do they think we need to recite a bunch of shit like little robots to love our country? These words have no real meaning if they are forced.

edit: i've REALLY got to get in some typing lessons...

blindly recite, on a daily basis, a pledge of allegiance? How fascist does it sound when you actually think about it?

4. My kid certainly will not be.
She or he can pledge to love her fellow man, or something else as meaningful, but not to a damn flag and not forced.

3. You know, you are right
I'm a teacher and used to have to do it every damned day. BORING

It should be BIG deal. Once in a while. Patriotic music and picnics. Pats on the back and congratulations that you are old enough to say it.

It is meaningless now.

And lose the God stuff. It was good the old way.

6. They see it as a wedge issue with stupid people
I doubt they could give a rat's ass about the pledge otherwise.

have been talking to an empty room for like 2 hours. I've been too lazy to cahnge the channel. They're fucking ridiculous. They will not shut up about how GREAT John Roberts is.

edit: one is (R) from Iowa.
