Politics of the Gilmore Girls |
|
I was watching the latest last night, and it's amusing to catch what the writers riff off of current events.
Out of nowhere, Richard Gilmore: What's up with that Coulter? She's so skinny if she waked across a storm grate she'd fall right through!
Then, more germane, Richard Gilmore: I'll call Scooter Libby. It's useful to have someone on the inside. Emily Gilmore: Before the indictment comes through, please!
Of course Emily is a member of D.A.R. gack. What a crew.
As for Lorelei and Rory, it is pretty clear from past episodes that they tend liberal. Rory idolized Seymour Hersch which is something no College Republican would do. Her friend Paris used to have dreams about Hillary.
Fun to watch. This season, Rory seems determined to turn herself into a loser. I wonder how long it will take for Logan to lose interest. Oh, well. At least she now has a chance to be something other than the endlessly chirpy goody-two-shoes she's been so far.

She stole a yacht. She talked her boyfriend into doing it because she was in some sort of emotional crisis.
The judge was right on. Richard's hotshot lawyer friend was sure she would get no more than 10 hours community service -- the judge was having none of it. 300 hours within 6 months.
Better than a felony record, I would say.
Rory is a putz, but she has potential.

turned me on to the Girls when it first appeared. I think the writing is quite good. I think I identify - was a single mother raising a daughter (who marched for Caesar Chavez) myself long, long ago!

have a successful drama talking about Liberals in their true light..instead of listening to a fatpompous chatteringhead denigrate reality.

7. There was a great episode |
|
when Lorelei told Christopher's parents that Bush's face was too big for his head, or something like that. I love the political references on that show.

"George Bush is stupid. And what's wrong with his head. His face is too big for his head."
My daughter makes me watch that show.
The dialog is amazing. The plot is the same each week, though. Someone always hurts someone else's feelings, and there are apologies. The End.

8. Barbara Boxer was on one episode... |
|
when Paris and Rory went to a summer camp in D.C. (there was some Republican Rep. that Boxer sent Paris to when she got annoying, it was kind of funny). Lorelei made fun of Dubya and Condi mailboxes that Kurt had once.

Boxer: "Paris, I'd like you to meet my good friend, Republican Congressman Doug Ose."
