What I did to a Rush Limpball mass mailing once....
One time when I received a mass mailing from Rush Limpball, I took a Hershey bar chocolate bar, melted it in my hand and rubbed it on the inserts. Then I wrote on it, "This is what I think of you" and "I'm a Democrat you idiot".

Then I added a few sheets of paper to add to the cost of mailing it back in his postage marked envelope and sent it back to him.

Couldn't help it......

A question to any person familiar with mass mailings.....if one would fill them out like we were going to join and mail them back, would it cost the original poster anymore?

1. Kinda immature IMHO.
All you did was make the postal folks job harder. You also enforced a conservatives attitude that Liberals are immature.

Just saying.

their paces.

I read on this site that it was best to something heavy inside the postage paid return envelopes, although I can't think of any small, heavy disposable objects.

Anyway, the point is that the repukes will get billed for the extra postage for the heavier envelopes. That's less money that they will be able to spend on commercials that trash the Democrats!

ETA: What about stuffing the envelopes with some of the other junk mail that you get?!

3. I do that shit all the time.
ALWAYS. Credit card solicitations get torn up and sent back in the post-paid envelopes, ditto for anything from Repubs. It wastes their money. And I like to do that. Because they're motherfucking evil.

And while it's nice that your heart bleeds for the postal folks, NOTHING makes their job harder except Publisher's Clearinghouse week. The mail never stops. One prank here or there means dick to a letter carrier.

6. Richard Meltzer used to send people stillborn kittens suspended in jello
but he'd write the intended receiver's name on the return address and neglet to use a stamp, so the package would be delivered free.

I don't think the PO lets you do that anymore, though.

10. I've read that!
1) I can't help but wonder where he got the kittens (I'd heard it was squirrels, BTW, but whatev).

2) I wish I had one. Even if it meant that Meltzer hated my band.

13. Where would you go about collecting stillborn cats?
Sounds like Mr. Richard Meltzer has an active imagination.

4. Untrue.
I work for USPS. By adding weight to the mailing, the poster made it cost more for Limpballs to receive (since they're business reply mail).

Didn't make our jobs harder in the least. It the outside was nice and clean, and it was incredibly thick or rigid, it's doubtful that anyone sorting it even noticed.

For the record, I personally strongly encourage this tactic. I'm not speaking as a postal employee by say so, I'm speaking personally.

Here's a few tips and a couple did-you-knows:

+ Envelopes which are rigid or very thick do take the effort of being manually sorted, but doing so usually takes only seconds for the person sorting.

+ Using glossy envelopes that have slippery ink ont the exterior make them much more difficult to sort, even using our automated equipment. I myself would have no problem with a complete ban on colored ink on the exterior of envelopes.

+ Improperly loaded envelopes (such as those that have some sort of plastic card in one side of the envelope) are a gigantic pain for us; we have to baby-sit the mail as it feeds through the machine so it doesn't all fall on the floor.

+ The USPS will mail nearly any nonexplosive item, properly marked chemicals ("wrong" types, or in "wrong" containers, aren't accepted- see your local postal window clerk for more), and even unpackaged auto parts like bumpers and tires. All that is required is a legible address and the proper postage, although a box is usually used for smaller items.

Doing what the OP did isn't immature at all, and ensures my own continued employment :)

9. i mail stuff from mendota il
ever run across some really bad poly-bagged periodicals? all taped up-split seams -open ends? my observations-new mail bags suck along with the cheap plastic tags-opti pass stickers are better than sliced bread, and white clothe bags are a bio-chemical hazard, and of course mixed states irving park is our garbage can.... well off to create more problems for the post office

something very similar. Of course, I was an immature person of 40 at the time. I stuffed their postage paid envelope with all sorts of stuff--fabric swatches from Blair pants, coupons for Summer's Eve douches, and I think I even put a used kleenex in there. I never heard from them again. In hindsight, I wish I had put in some used toilet tissue.

11. Straight Outta "Steal This Book" by Abbie Hoffman
He suggested taking one of those cards that fall out on the floor when you open a magazine and then glue it to a brick and dropping it in a mail box.

By the way...if you're liberal and have not read "Steal This Book," get thee to a book store PRONTO! It's as relevent today as it ever was.

FIGHT THE POWER!

12. You are showing a strong maturity and wisdom beyond your
years. Not to mention an absolutely unquestioned character. I'm sure that you will do an incredible amount of good in this world before you reach life's end!
